Sahara....did it push the edge

of believability?

I thoroughly enjoyed it which is really all it ever set out to do. Stuck to the book pretty closely....for a movie.

Matthew McConahey was a very good choice whch I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of his sidekick.

Penelope Cruz got their because of her looks apparently, nothing noteworthy in her performance though it was acceptable.

Admiral Sandecker was played out well though Rudy Gunn seemed pretty non descript.

I suspect that those without a Clive Cussler background may be left saying "what the *uck" a few time but still enjo the movie.

It was satisfyingly long and had a lot of impressive visuals though I thought their yacht (that got blown up) could have been more impressive. I kept expecting it to suddenly go 60 miles an hour or start flying...or something. Instead, it just gets shot up and detonated.

Also....the ending was a bit lackluster. Would have been a good time to plug some great wine and a California sunset with whelping seals and migrating whales etc.

So was Sahara originally a Dirk Pitt novel? Instead of dirk they had matthew and instead of Al they had penelope?

Al was played by Steve Kahn?

Penelope was a WHO scientist and Dirk's romantic interest.

Will be interesting to see how the box office receipts pile up. It will do great on video.

I heard it cost 150 million to make.

Steve Zahn!

the book was much better- Dirk Pitt was an intellectual type & in the movie Matthew was kinda slow/dumb...lol Matt Damon or Mark Wahlberg would of been a better choice.

I had to see this with my mom. She got busted up in a car accident in '97 and lost her memory and had like 300 stitches to her face and shit. So imagine spending 2 hours of your life with a 60 year old fat chick with no memory, asking more questions than an ADHD chinese kid after a 6 pack of Jolt cola?

not a bad flick though

Books.....are always much better.

Damon is gay which would be bad for a Dirk Pitt character. They prolly had their reasons for dumbing down his movie character a little bit, though not too much.

Pitt is 6'3" in the books so a taller fellow was desired.
