reusing bottled water bottles

Bacteria builds up in the bottle.

Basically yes, there was an internet hoax about the leaching of a toxin from the plastic and is often repeated by misinformed people. The alleged toxin is not in the plastic bottle but that doesnt stop people from parroting it in tons of articles perpetuating the hoax.

The reason why not to reuse bottles is that people dont wash them properly and turn them into a petri dish like 75th said allowing for bacteria to grow that possibly could give you GI tract disturbances.
So, you'd just have to treat them like any other container and wash with soap and let dry
 
I'm the one who said not to reuse the bottles. Why? So more trash is created and this planet turns into a giant landfill faster.
 
I re-use a 1.5 liter bottle at work per week. We have a fitlered cooler, so I just a new one Monday and refill it the rest of the week. No wash, no rinse, just refill. I do the same with the one I keep in the bedroom since I have filtered water at home. Is that OK, or am I germing myself to a slow death?
 
you'd be ok using one bottle for a week, MAYBE too, but they are not designed to be reused for months because they do not resist bacteria.
 
If that's the case then I'm fucked. I've gone months before without washing it....I mean I'l wash the mouthpeice so there isn't dirt on it and stuff, but nothing else besides rinsing it out or drinking it.
 
You ever see that analysis done on that... kinda frightening. Of course air is carcinogenic too, so screw it.

More germs in the sand at the beach than a week old water bottle. Drink up!
 
If people in third world countries can drink water from damn muddy community ponds where they also bathe, I think can NOT be a pussy and drink from a platic bottle more than once.

How do you know if you have PET plastic bottle? Turn your bottle over and look for the number 1 in a triangle. This number indicates the type of plastic used. A #4 or higher is considered safe.

PET plastic, which is used for commercial convenience water bottles such as Walmart water bottle or Aquafina water bottles or any bottle with a number 1 on the bottom.

All of these bottles are designed only for one use. If they are used multiple times or left in extreme hot or cold temperature the plastic begins to break down and leak into your drinking water. Creating a plastic tase ad leaving bacteria in your water bottle, YUCK!

But how many times have we purchased Evian, or even walmart water bottle and re-used it over and over again? Stop re-using them! It is not safe for you!

Only reusable water bottles that have a number four or seven on the bottom of the water bottle. This prevents you from ingesting any toxins or bacteria. A much safer choice for you and your family!

There's absolutely no science behind that

Otherwise someone posts some studies

I guess it's just that it's aconvenient way to tell people to buy bottled water rather than drinking tap water

I just posted it from somewhere else.. i agree.. i don't drink water remember.. sounds a bit fare fetch to me.. reused water bottle just look a bit nasty after a while in my opinion

nope not alcohol.. i only drink 3 times a year or so..

I like diet dr pepper :)

The cancer society released last week not to use bottles put in the freezer...also not to re-heat anything plastic in the microwave...including items covered in ceran wrap....I however re-use my water bottles for like a day or two then chuck'em and buy more...........
