Resting Heart Rate normals

slin shady

New member
Ok, Just read a post about some guy thinking he's dying because of 100 bpm heart rate,
I took mine a few times and its at 96-100 every time,
Didn't take any ephedrine today, and just eating as normal, and don't feel any different,
So does that mean I'm fucked up all the time? is 96 bpm high,
:worried:

yes it is very high if it is at rest. Resting for a normal young man without any cardiac history should be in the 50-70's, depending on your aerobic state of health.

Hey Doc, What would be the best way to reduce your resting heart rate if it is already high. I'm assuming a lower fat diet, more cardio work, and no drinking, smoking, etc. Anything else you can do? My heart rate was also at about 96 bpm resting. I had a couple of other guys at my work check theirs, and theirs were 92 and 96 also. So ALL of us have a very high heart rate?

its not big deal though right? I'm 22, and I know 96 is a bit high for resting heart rate, but I'm not going to have a heart attack or anything , right>?
Doc?

If your resting hr is high at rest (>80 bpm) for an extended period, like years, you're definitely asking for big trouble. That's why stim's are really a bad idea. Your resting hr is, in fact, an excellent metric as to how healthy you are in general, as well as cardiovascular-wise. Numbers between 40 and 50 are an indication of excellent cardio health and health in general. It should be noted that high blood pressure in combination with a high heart rate over an extended period of time is very, very bad.

Some things to help all of this is:

. don't smoke
. take ample magnesium, calcium and potassium
. avoid stimulants (incuding caffeine)
. eliminate excess water by means of diuretics (to be used on an intermitant basis, e.g. not every day, all the time because they will tend to deplete your body of important minerals)
. do cardio exercise at least 3 times per week.

Hey slin,
I bet if you take your REAL resting heart rate, it would be much lower than that. Try taking it as soon as you wake up in the morning. That is your true resting rate. Mine shoots up to about 100bpm now and then even when I'm sitting in this chair typing away, but then it goes back down to around the 70's. If your resting heart rate is consistently high like that, then I would re-evaluate your situation. Change your diet around...eat clean. take vitamins. Do more cardio. Those should help....but definatly see a doc atleast, so he can tell you what to do to get that your respitory system's efficiency bumped up a notch.
