This was asked in the legal forum, but had few replies. Are research companies legal to operate in the US, assuming so, how do they get around the laws?

Yes they are completely legal.

Some chemicals (most in fact) arent banned. Therefore they can be sold "for research purposes only". Some may require a signed statement to save their as*.

Sometimes you may not be required to be a registered researcher, high-school and college projects, for example, purchase chemicals for legit research, even tough they arent registered researchers.
 
they have permits for handling /administrating controllled substances..certain procedures are followed..when people dont follow the procedure they have a good deal of paperwork to do, an investigation is done, or they will loose their job..
 
Rick Collins talks about this in his book. It's a great read. Basically they are legal but it's sorta shady. And it's certainly not legal for what we use it for lol. But hey, my rats need clen!
