Recessions are torture...

Nothing like idling away and paying for a couple yellow page ads and assorted other business expenses while the economy languishes away. Now I have to cough up money for a web page. This crap is getting very old.

Doesn't seem like we have too many self employed guys that are feeling the pain of a prolonged recession. Self employment has its share of heaven and hell.

You crack me up sometimes. You know there is a fortune to be made by taking peoples money and telling them how to be more effective

You figure out a way to keep photographers from being affected by the recession and you will be able to sell to thousands of them.

I have another source of income, I'm not hurting badly but things have been better.

Improve your business idea, so it's not effected by the recession. I've posted more than 10,000 on this board alone.

But at least you are in charge of your own success. Many people right now are sitting in desks, living paycheck by paycheck and wondering when some dumb guy from above is gonna sign something and put them out of a job. And get maybe 2 weeks severance if they're lucky.

Problem with recessions is -- ALL companies, even ones making good money, are cutting jobs 10-30% just "in case" revenue goes down. It's called "stream-lining" and many r&d budgets, new projects, extra helpers, revenue-losing divions etc. etc. get slashed.

As a result, many many people wind up losing thier jobs they wouldn't have if the economy was good.

Virtually every one of those ideas was complete shit.

If any of them had any merit, you'd be doing them. Your questions abouit contacting investors - among other things - demonstrate an absolute cluelessness about business ownership.

I have a dozen employees, plus a day job that I work about 80 hours a week. I'm living it, so is TBoy, while you're on the sidelines like Spike Lee at the Knicks games.

Yeah, I just had to "downsize" three people (out of about 75), just to make sure that we are lean, vs heavy to start the year...

My suggestion to all those employed in an industry that may be affected......don't "nominate" yourself by your performance to be laid off. Make sure that you are in the top 10% of all employees in your work ethic, and reliability.
