Reality check! Please Read!!

Another good read by Shawn Ray.

In the business of making money from muscles you better have thick skin and a strong will! In bodybuilding, you reap what you sow, you can take that to the bank! First, you must realize that we are not all created equally, physically speaking. Second, no matter how hard you train or sacrifice, there are no guarantees you will ever amount to anything more than a local or city level champion, if that! Reality check!

Genetics play an integral part in determining how far you may soar as a competitor, just as the judges do during the selection process of who's better than who? The madness in this muscle business is to a certain degree controlled and regulated by what seems to be a handful of judges who judge all the important amateur and professional shows. These judges have a certain control over what look takes us into the new Millennium! One thing, every athlete with a desire to compete must brace themselves, bodybuilding is a subjective sport that is ruled and based upon opinion's.

Therefore, no matter how hard you trained or what you may think of your opposition, the final outcome is totally out of your control. As a professional, I must accept the judges decision as final.

My only resolve with regards to the outcome, if unfavorable, is to go back to the gym train harder. At the end of the day, if you do your best you will reap the rewards of your hard work in other areas of life that may come in different forms. The real reward comes in the journey. Finish what you started and step up to the plate to see what your made of.

Stay the course and you'll at least win in the most important game. The game of Life!

That was another good read. I always liked articles written by Shawn Ray. He seems to have a grasp on many of lifes lessons. I also admire him for never changing his physique just to please the judges. He stayed the way he felt he looked best, and he still has good placings. Thats the one thing that I think messed up Flex's career. He played the size game, when he knew it didn't work for him. Good read man....

So Bouncer, what do you think of this article? I know you plan on doing the USAs and then going for your pro card...is this in any way discouraging? Are you looking to go into bodybuilding to make a living? Or is it just a hobby for you? I'm not a bodybuilder, so that article really is meaningless to me...but how do you guys who compete feel about it?

Interesting...

Inetersting...
good question bro. it is definitely more than a hobby to me at this point. I believe i have the size and symmetry to do very well at the USA's but the IFBB is a whole other ball game! once your pro it dosen't always matter who has the best physic, it's who "the powers that be" want to win. it can be discouraging but i wouldn't want to do anything else. i love this sport to much.

I think for some of us, it isn't about one day making big money (well, that doesn't even happen in this sport, unless you are Weider, or own a supplement company), but it's more a love. It has to take a deep desire to want to get serious in this sport. It doesn't matter if you just take it to the national level, or pro, it takes a lot of heart. Genetics, smart training, nutrition and 'supplements', and yes the drive are what it takes. Even then we know we may never make it and get that pro card. It's a long journey, but if you love it, it will be a rewarding one in more ways than one....

good read,
