Claim: Kids who say 'yuck' may be racist

LONDON, July 7 (UPI) -- Toddlers who say "yuck" when given flavorful foreign food may be exhibiting racist behavior, a British government-sponsored organization says.

The London-based National Children's Bureau released a 366-page guide counseling adults on recognizing racist behavior in young children, The Telegraph reported Monday.

The guide, titled Young Children and Racial Justice, warns adults that babies must also be included in the effort to eliminate racism because they have the ability to "recognize different people in their lives."

The bureau says to be aware of children who "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuck'."

"Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships," the guide says.

Staff members are advised not to ignore racist actions and to condemn them when they occur.

I think back to my own all-white elementary school and the virulent racism that was in evidence whenever peas or broccoli were served.

lol, i remember there being one middle school cook or nanny we called them, that was known as 'nanny hitler' she was definitely a racist amongst other not so pleasant attributes. she took no shit from anyone and her fare was consistently bad, she also had a fetching moustache, hence the nickname

As a healthcare professional working in the Public Sctor and Head of Diversity and Inclusiveness at Ladyboy College,Oxted may I say that this report is long overdue.

How long has it taken for people to grasp that all white children are inherantly racist. At my daughter Cressida's playgroup I noticed a white toddler avert her gaze away from a small child of African origin who was battering her with a plastic beaker. I reported this immediately and I and the group superviser made them role play the incident again but this time with the little white racist child MAINTAINING eye contact throughout. We also taught her to say ' Thank you Princess of African Origin whose forefathers were cruelly exploited so that I can attend this playgoup"
