Question on papervar

Hey guys a friend of mine just gave me some RC paper var. It looks like a rectangular piece of cardboard with lines forming squares on it. Is this legit?

Also, how do you take it? Do you swallow the squares like a pill, chew 'em up, or just hold them in your mouth till they desolve?
