Question I couldn't answer about the military physical

When someone enlists, during the physical do they test your thyroid levels? I got a bro on some T3 that's going to be taking a physical within the next week and I couldn't give him a straight answer. Anyone know?

I've never heard of them doing, I can ask a buddy of mine that is a recruiter, but I highly doubt it. Why would they? The blood is for STD's and piss for drugs as far as I know. I'll get back to you, unless someone knows.

When I went through meps (3/02) they didn't check my thyroid levels..... they just ask you a bunch of questions for the most part.... they take some blood (six vials if I remember correctly)......standard drug test (coke/weed)..... That's about all I remember... hope it helps.

No they will not test for T-3. When I went to MEPS I was just finishing a cycle of EQ and test. Passed with no problems. I did stick out when we had the Doc check us out as a group. I was 210 then and cut. The tiny guys just out of high school looked like 10 year olds compared to me.

If you are going into special forces or seals, they will check everything, and I mean everything. But just enlisting no, he will be fine.

What about after you make it through selections ;)

If they do a full panel blood work they may do TSH.

Thanks for all the responses, if he kept doing t3 but wanted to err on the side of caution what dose should he take that would look within the norm that day?

cytomel has a generally 48hr half life though this can vary by 12hrs or more either way. testing "normal" requires 5 half lives (99% elimination) (though 3 is sufficient).

so he should stop at least 6 days prior to the test

I was using AAS while in the Marine Corps and pissed once while on and once during PCT and never popped. A few Marines in my platoon were on the whole time in the Corps and never pissed hot. They test for rec. drugs.

Semper Fi,
