Question for those in the Restaurant field

Question for those in the Restaurant field -

Is there some sort of unwritten rule that says when a couple comes into a restaurant, seat them as close as possible to the table with screaming kids?

I always politely request "something more private", after which we're given a wonderful table - but why not do this in the first place? My husband and I are always well-dressed when we go out, and we're certainly not dressed up as clowns or anything that children would find entertaining. Nor do we go to places that would even be considered kid-type restaurants, but if there's one table in the whole place w/ a kid, they'll try to pawn it off on us. Does this happen to other couples?

This has happened on several occasions, which has left me wondering if it's not some industry practice?

You give the crappy table to the person least likely to make a stink about it, so look like you're gonna make a stink about it.

It usually isn't done intentionally. You just have a lot of lame parents who can't control their kids. Usually, seating is done in sections according to server, so they get an equal amount of customers in a shift.
