Ok we have a Yamaha AV receiver with 6 x 100w output at 4-6-8 ohms. Now my gf just got a set of 5 speakers with subwoofer (around 100w each) but the thing is, they run at 3 ohms. Now I've been told by an "audio freak" that only 1 ohms difference wont be a problem but if I set the system at 6 then it will. True ???

Yeah he is kinda right. I will drop the speaker load down to low and you risk the chance of it burning out. 3 ohm is pretty inefficient set of speakers so it take a lot of juice to run them.
