Question for People living between Fla and Washington DC

I'm planning a road trip by myself soon, and will be wanting to visit some cool places(History Related or Hiking/Nature) between
Orlando area and DC. Probably 6 days or so

I already know I'm hitting up a couple Civil war sites and then spending probably 1 day doing the monuments run and then
probably 2 whole days at the Smitsonian..

Post up ideas of places in this route that you have been too and
are in this area of interest..
As mentioned, I'm not a party-bar, urban, type but do enjoy
natural wonders and history/science/museum type stuff..

Hey Y_lifter there is actually a book about all the historical/cool attractions all along I-95 that I bought my mom for Xmas. I highly suggest picking it up.

Get into Savannah Georgia, or Charleston SC, some beautiful cities with some cool historical houses.

Hold your nose through North Carolina though, unless you want to hit the outer banks.

St Augustine FL - See the spanish shit, get some choclate at Kilwin's then get the f**k out. You've probably been a bunch of times anyway....so

Jacksonville - pass it.

Savannah - take Freeballin's advice, head down Abercorn street and check out the old estates. Also River and Bay Street have some interesting art galleries. I-16 ends right downtown.

Charleston - Hiostoric downtown - Meeting, Queen and King Streets have everything you need for history as far as old houses, art, and the following, Stop at Hyman's Seafood too. Get off I-95 at Rte 17 and go riight into the city (60 mins).

NC - I am not a mountain guy and I fail to see the allure of impoverished hillrats. Maybe you could check out the dumpster that Eric Robert Rudolph was hiding in.

I do like the NC coast - Cape Hatteras probably the nicest but it is FAR out of the way.

VA has lots of historic attractions - Richmond is kinda fun but haven;t been in a long time....someone else needs to help here...stop in No. VA and see ttlpkg maybe.

Great stuff people.. and yes, I'm boring when it comes to doing things to RELAX.. Sitting on a mountain top for an hour just looking off and thinking is my speed..
Been to Ski Beach (banner Elk N.C)., Been to St Augustine.
Civil war stuff look good as well as the book on stuff along I95..

This is a trip for me to do those things the family trips miss out on.
I love to do FUN stuff as well like skiing, rafting, roller coasters, amus parks etc, but I get plenty of that on our family vacations.

When I get dates (probably before spring) I'll post up,
as I'd meet at a bar for a few hours..

Civil War Stops; Literaly hundrends, Virginia was a hotspot for action
Shendoah Valley
Luray and Endless Caverns(Most of which still have the handwriting on the cave walls from Civil War troops as they camped there during the harsh winter months.)

Washington D. C. : Everything there is amazing from the Smithsonian to the Washington Memorial...Arlington Cemetary is a must!

The list goes on my man, but all of these, are less than 3 hours from me, and most are located less than 30 minutes...Let me know how I can help, and I'll do what I can....

There is also a cool private lake near by...<wink>

trust me, there are some hard acting thugs in that joint, so it's not like you're going to see a whole bunch of nelly queens flying all over the place.

We have a place called the parliment house here on Orlando
that has female impersonator review shows.
I remember we all got drunk and thought we were gonna go in there and laugh at them..

Truth was many were butt ugly guys in drag
But a few were pretty OK looking ... LOL
