I am starting some Muay Thai training pretty soon and I want to incorporate some ground training as well down the line. What do you feel is the best form of ground training:BJJ, Submission, Sambo, etc.?:fro:

I belive you have made a great choice as to do muaythai with grappling :) Try to lean some grappling that incorperates all the styles. If you start with BJJ you will learn to grapple with a gi on at first. Make sure the instructor will sometime let you grapple with out a gi. A weakness of BJJ is takedowns so learn some wrestling takedowns to make your style better. Sombo has alot of leglocks and sometimes you can catch BJJ people with something they havent seen before. Someplace like the the Lions Den or the Shark tank would be a good place to learn submissions with no gi ever. IMO BJJ no gi (Vale Tudo) with wrestling is the best form of grappling.

Why not take pieces of all three forms? That is,take a dozen offensive and defensive moves from each discipline and practice them until they become impulsive?

thats sound Huck, but are there any schools in the NYC area that teach all three, so that I could not only properly learn them but also spar?:fro:

Go to Renzo Gracie's school. He does alot of Vale tudo training. I know that somewhere in NYC there is a school that teaches both muaythai & Sombo. Then you could train both at one place. :)

Looking at other stuff while practicing the BJJ or Vale Tudo is cool idea...Dumog and Silat also have ground techniques to add perspective....only perspective though, BJJ has best approach to learning the grappling...
