Question for all americans.....!!!

I just had a pretty intense argument with my roomate about american currency. He is from Bermuda and says that Americans still use a 50 cent piece as part of their common currency. I have spent a LOT of time in the states and have never even seen a fifty cent piece.

Settle the argument please......Is the fifty cent piece still used as common currency or is it only a collectors piece???

I would not go as far to say that it is a collectors piece just yet, it will be though.
But no it is not used as common currency

It is still in circulation as currency yet the mints no longer make them. So what you have is collector hording for no real reason because there are sooo damn many of them on shelves in granny bumpkins cupboard and unlce cletus's (That's right cletus with the hairy toe.) dry celler!
