Question about sodium

New member
Is monitoring my sodium intake important, and why? I ask this because a friend of mine said something to the extent of "if i cut out my sodium intake i'll lose weight fast" or something similiar...I was just wondering if any one could enlighten me on this subject.

Oh, by the way, i apologize for my newbish posts...i'm just a very curious person and i figure this is the best place for me to ask :)

Sodium can increase water retention, which can push your Blood Pressure up, or cause you to feel and look bloated. Sometimes, people have to get a mild diueretic to help with water retention, so their BP gets normalized or to reduce bloated feeling.

Watching your sodium will not make you lose fat. It will help you retain less "water weight". Diet & cardio = lose weight.

:)

Very much appreciated.

I just wanted to make sure that taking too much sodium would have no negative effect on my immediate diet, and although it may make me feel bloated from added water, it doesn't have any negative effect on metabolic rate, or anything dealing with fat retention/burning correct?

Also, how long does it take for sodium to be disposed of by the body?

Thanks in advance, you have all been real helpful on everything i've needed answered!

I am not an expert by any stretch, but unless your sodium intake is VERY high I cant see how it would affect your metabolism. If I am wrong, hopefully someone will correct me. I know just reducing sodium wont make you lose fat.
