Question about religion and medicine

Deus Ex Machina

Do you think that the religious Right is stymieing the progression for more advanced cures for sexual-related diseases: diseases such as syphilis, herpes, or AIDS? I mean, a lot of religious zealots would say that a person with one of those diseases deserved it as God's way of punishment, and therefore lobby against cures/advancements in cures.

What say you?

"Those who live in sin, shall die in sin" - Ronald Regan

Of course that was just a line from a movie!

Anyways, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be able to human experiments on prison inmates.

You would have to show empirical evidence demonstrating that religious zealots have obstructed pharmaceutical innovation and FDA approval.

I don't think that there is much evidence to support this idea.

I don't think they'd oppose any of that, but if they did, it would be for the same reason they oppose any sex education other than abstinence training: they think any sex outside of marriage is wrong, and think that such policies encourage it.

I think any religious thought should have/has been replaced by scinetific fact (except for the easter bunny).

Religion was fine centuries ago when we had nothing to tell us why there was thunder, why there was rain, why there was anything. Although we still don't know why we exist, most things in nature can be explained. Religion remains only for the dullards, the gullible and the weak who need some one or some thing to tell why to be.

Yet, they have no problems sleeping around on their wives and such.

does opposing using stem cells count?

I know the catholic church was in trouble when they told africans that condoms didnt work because they didnt want people having sex outside of marriage.

But as for opposing scientific research, i dont think they do that. Not that i know of.

If memory serves me correct, the Catholic Church, and other religious organizations, are opposed to stem cell and cloning research, due to their belief that embyros and clones are individual persons.

That is true. There's also truth to the condom thing in Africa. I mean, I've never been a huge fan of the catholic church, but because of what they said more Africans will get HIV. That's just foul.
