Question About Auto Insurance

How much does your past previous driving record come into play when applying for coverage. I've had my license for 5 years. the first 2 I was inexperianced and had a few accidents. For the last 3 years my driving record was pretty much flawless.

I was under the impression that after 3 years of a clean record your driving record is as good as new. When I got a quote on the coverage, they asked me only in the last 3 years. When they sent me some paperwork, it now asks about the last 5 years. Im afraid this will hurt me evn though I did improve 100% over the last 3 years...

Whats the truth with Auto Insurance...anybody know how this works?

Every company is different. But as a general rule, insurance companies will look for any possible way to increase your rates. So, if the new ppwk says 5 years, chances are they're going to 'adjust' your rate.

I work in insurance and most people when asked about prior tickets and such they lie. It's our job to find out when we check the motorvehile records.

Bullshit about the past and if they pick up on it they pick up on it.

But to answer the question...tickets are on your license for 5 years then they are cleared from being used against you.

depends on the staet dude...

most states and insurance companies ask you if you have had any probs in the last 3 years.

Some insurers treat accidents and tickets differently, and criminal offenses like DUI or reckless driving stay there 5 to 7 years depending on the offense.

Usually, if an offense happened out of state they will not have info on it.

Well I had a careless driving ticket in 99. That was 2 points on my license. By now those two points are gone- license wise.

What im worried about is the accidents....I have been accident free the last 3 years. From what I recall an accident is worth 5 insurance points and you are supposed to loose those 5 points after 3 years. So in theory all the accidents should be gone..

Wrong!

I got a ticket in WY and it showed up on my insurance record in CA...

It was a frustrating ticket.

I was visting a friend in WY in little town--500 people the most-- when I was pulling out from a little shoping place to get into the main road, there was a STOP sign where almost no one will make a completely stop, I did my California stop when suddenly the cop was behind me with his flashing lights. I was asked if I didnt see the STOP sign and of course I was issued a $50 ticket --which is the only blemish on my driving record for the last 12 years--,however, it was enough to have my insurance raised with a few bucks despite of my perfect record till then.

I am sure if I didnt have Ca license plate I would have been ignored, as most of the locals are.....At least if I was caught speeding 90 miles per hour, I wouldn't have been pissed.

If you drive like a woman, then you deserve to pay more insurance on your '92 IROC

They only made IROC's 86-90 homey, but that style of Camaro was run 82-92. Easily the best generation of Camaro ever
