Watching american idol this week ( queen tribute ) i was reminded of how many great songs that band produced ...

I was lucky enough to grow up in the 70's with bands who produced hit after hit after hit unlike so many bands these days that seem to come and go in the same year .

Styx was another band that put out a ton or reconds which were all good
the list is endless from that era

Queen's Greatest Hits albums are one of the best collections ever.

Compared to the shit produced today ... i'll take even the worst styx had to offer .

80% of todays bands are studio bands that sound like crap live or else they lip sync to studio recordings .

One hit wonders are everywhere ... older bands like april wine or cars you would be hard pressed to find one song per album you "did'nt like "never mind producing an album with one song and the rest a bunch of crap like today's bands .

Sure they have .. but no more so then right now or the past 5 years anyways .

Why not look at the 70's and 80's with rose coloured glasses ? I'm allowed considering i'm 42 and thats the era i grew up in . At last count i've been to 496 live concerts not counting the hundreds of times i've seen bands like loverboy and heart and herliquin on the A circuit playing in local bars back in the early 80's .

The 80 % stat came from a CBC domementry on the coming of ages of music and how music follows trends in society , there were several top music producers on that show who made comments on the talent pool now compared to years past and how the studio technoligy has allowed seemingly untalented induviduals to excell .

I'm a fan of all music except that crap this generation calls gangster rap .. If your a dumb enough fuck to listen to getto rats rambling on about whacking a pig or drive by shootings on rival gangs then your intrest in music is very limited as reflected by your intelligence .

I have well over 100k worth of high end audio equipment not including 1600 CD'S and 3500 albums ... You can find me posting over at the klipsch forum and at audio asylum as well as several other's . So i'm no newbie !

No, you're not allowed. I grew up with grunge but I'm not all, "OH MAN! NIRVANA!!! NO ONE WILL BE THAT GREAT AGAIN!" You're trying to turn subjective arguments into objective ones. Doesn't work here. If you said something like, "I think..." I'd be cool with it.

Argh, you're not a fan of all music, you're a fan of the stuff that you like and are exposed too. This is like when fifteen year old girls are like, "LOL, I listen to everything!" I'm addicted to music and I don't listen to everything so there's no way they can with only an FM radio and a subscription to Seventeen.
