we were at the us embassy parking lot after learning that 5 yrs of common law wouldnt not be enough for my husband to come to FL with me, it went something like "great now we have to get married"(that was me)

My wife moved into my house after dating off and on for several years. I never really proposed formally. It was more along the lines of " we should get married sometime".

nah man I'm 22, but I'm not planning on getting married right away, maybe like when I'm 25ish
we are, we lived together 5 years and then married to come here, we've been married since 09, we never really wanted to get married, we felt no need, we were arealdy married as per what the concept meant, but for legal purposes we had to do it.
Thanks to Ebony I remembered my HS BF proposed when we were 18, he gave me a Rolex with a diamond in it(his dad is a jeweler and they were pretty rich) we were in my parent's house, in the living room and he just whipped out the box and said he wanted to marry me, I looked at the darn thing for a minute or two, never even took it out of the box, returned the box and said no.

haha, mine was a fake diamond which he promised he'd replace it with a huge stone when he is rich in few years. No way my family was gonna be okay with it so were engaged in secret for a week. Then, as a suprise to me, he went to ask for my dad's blessing and I don't know what happpened exactly but Daddy scared the crap out of him. So next day he said if we were to ever get married after graduation in two months, that I need to move away from my crazy family. So I went home and I confronted my dad, to which he listened patiently to my tiraid and simply replied, "you are not marrying that boy."
I got so mad, I was ready elope just to prove my dad wrong. Soon, my whole family were agianst the engagement which made me even more defiant and we made plans to elope right after graduation.
After a month when I was able to really think about my future marrage and not just focusing on the satisfaction of rebeling and "not letting my parents control my future, and who did they think they were, thinking they knew what was best for me, etc.", that was when marriage didn't sound like such a good idea. I was still mad enough to do it for the sake of going through with it, when the fiance started talking about how any wife of his would probably need to stay home and raise his sons and no point in me going to college, blah, blah, blah.
So I told him to fuk off and we broke up.lol
we were engaged for 39 days and 7 hours.
Oh and I was a virgin throughout HS and our relationship. No sex till marriage thing, and after a year and half with no luck, might have influenced his proposal. Plus, it was annoying how he would constantly press for sex during engagment and get angry when I refused and scary kinda of angry which I tried to overlook at the time. In his head, engaged was as good as marriage and marriage meant I was his and I was to obay his demands. Its really easy to see the control and anger issues now but not then.
So that means you're still saving sex till marriage?
