All it does is when you haven't slept properly/enough, it basically wakes you up and keeps you awake for 12 hours or so.

I read a report that in competitive sports which require repeated all out performances e.g. powerlifting, it has been shown to reduce fatigue and improve performance. Also improves concentration and focus according to some. Hence its possible application in weightlifting.
