Protein before sleep ok?

Naeem

New member
I like to take a shake like an hour before I go to sleep when my body is sore from lifting.

Is this ok? I have heard that anything that is in your system while you sleep converts to fat (myth? Or situational?)

I'm guessing though that the body can use protein for muscle growth though, not too sure. Any input would appreciated. Thanks.

No probs having a shake before bed bro. It is actually a good idea since your body has to go for 6-9 hours then before getting any protein. I know some people have a shake ready for when they wake up in the night!!

I would never go to bed hungry, Im terrified of being in a catabolic state all night long! I always have some lean protein (Preferably Egg or Milk protein) before bed. If I awake Hungry, I will have some FF cheese and go back to bed. Dont let your muscle waste all night by not getting them nutrients. I sometimes eat a Chicken breast and a few Almonds, Right before bed and havent had any probs, still wake up hungry and lean as ever. Just watch carb intake before bed.

I usually have a scoop of protein with water before bed. If i don't, I'll wake up at around 2am starving. I don't think i could have it with milk before bed though, it would probably be too heavy.

Don't forget to add 10-15 grams fiber (unsweetened kind) along with a TBS of healthy oil to help slow digestion and keep you in an anabolic state longer.

I always have a protein shake just before bed, in fact I will sometimes have a scoop of natty pb with some flax so my body is recieving nutrients consistently throughout the course of the evening. I too hate the idea of going 6-10 hrs with no food....I can't think of a better way to waste muscle.

Cottage cheese is good before bed, since the protien in it is slow absorbing. You get a constant dose of protien throughout the night.

i eat 40-50g or protein an hour to 2 hours before bedtime. chicken, eggs, or a shake. keep the carbs low though.

before bedtime, i also make sure to mix a low-carb protein shake with 12oz water. i keep it by my bed in case i wake in the middle of the night. it gives me peace of mind.
