Protein Bar Before Bed?

Latelt if I'm not in the mood for a shake or hungry before bed, I'lleat a Designer Protein Bar. 27 carbs but mostly from glycerine, 7 grams of fat and 30 grams protein. Too much fat before bed you think?

more importantly, i'd ditch the whey protein before bed and switch to a time release blend. Whey is a very quickly absorbing protein and although effective, you probably want a slower digesting blend of caseign... etc. About the fat... i dont know.. i never watch my fat intake =/

I'm with him about the casein.....however, if you can't get any or don't like it (casein tastes like shit) then you can add some fat to it (as you already do) to slow down the digestion. I wouldn't be concerned to much with only 7g of fat but more with the 27g of carbs since they are all going to be stored.

I do the shake

I do the Designer Glycer lean shakes right before I go to bed. I haven't seem much of a change but I feel better about that then spending the money on night time protiens.

Peace

do something a little more slow absorbing.. such as a shake made with milk.. the milk will slow absorbtion greatly...:p ;)

have a 200g can of tuna before bed...40 grams of protien, 0.5 grams of fat and no carbs at all...the protien in tuna takes more time than whey to digest...also a 200g can of tuna is 4 times cheaper than a protien bar...in england bars cost about 2-2.50 pounds each...so every week thats about 16 pounds to get an extra 30 grams of protien a day, damn rip off if you ask me...just go through the un apatising experience of having a 200g can of tuna with 400 ml water before bed, make sure you go to the toilet before bed time...youll conveniently wake up about 8 hours later needing the toilet so youll be up in time fvor work and will have got your 8 hours sleep. Tuna is the best.

another thing i do.........:p ;)

milk is a source of protien...but i dont believe it is a good idea to have before going to bed...with me it can lie heavy on my stomach but it also contains sugar...dont really want sugar before bed because that will all be stored as excess eneergy...besides youd have to have a milk shake with about 2 litres of milk in to get 35 grams of protien, youd be pissing the night away. and wake up with a bad stomach probably. wouldnt really have a protien shake before bed because they usually contain about 600 ml of water or milk in...some have slight sugars and almost all have carbs, this means energy will be stored but also 600 ml of water will probably make you get up and go piss in the night which is annoying cos it wakes you up out of your sleep.

i disagree with olympia
ithink that a shake be4 bed is the best thing...but just strictly whey if your concered about sugars i take back two scoops of my simply eas shit which only has 3g of sugar for 20g's of protein but one thing i like getting up to take that piss after 5 hrs of sleep or so...gives me a chance to take back another shake that i've already made my fridge is rite near my bed so the shake has the stuff in it i just add the water and presto 3 sips later i got 40 more g's of protein in me...

All this talk of having to get up in the middle of the night being a bad thing---like DD says it's a perfect opportunity to down another shake or can of tuna or whatever.
