Processed Foods

I am trying to lay off processed foods. And i was wondering if you guys can help me figure out what foods are processed and which arent.

Think about the definition of processed:

2 a : to subject to a special process or treatment (as in the course of manufacture)

To wit, any natural, whole food that has been put through some "treatment" fits the definition of processed.

As a very general rule, anything that's packaged in a can, box, foil or bag has been processed in some way. Anything that includes ingredients like monosodium gluta-whatever or polyhydrogenated sucra-something. Anything that needs a preservative to enhance shelf life. Even canned tuna, which I eat daily, is processed.

For me, it's just a matter of keeping the chemicals and preservatives to a minimum.

all processed food are not evil !

your protein powder, for example, is a processed food......

I agree with the prev posts... All processed foods are not bad....
WHat I think are MUCH WORSE and maybe what your really asking is altered-ingredients like partially-hydrogenated oils and the like, which are trans-fats. These are worse than even saturated fats and should really be limited or completely eliminated from your diet. I just started doing this a few months ago....Its not that bad...Most potato chips, regular peanut butter, even foods like Hamburger Helper have partially hyd. oils in them!

You will not notice a big difference by stopping, but its mostly for your health, long term....Good Luck
