And the Karma is given when you click on the karma icon. The amount you get or lose depends on the person's post count and length of time they have been registered.

The stars have to do with the number of posts that you have.

The karma dots are based on the karma you have. For every 100 points of karma you have you get a dot. Karma is really just something to play around with.
