portugal vs france

I think the Portuguese have a great chance against the Algerians today, even with that French guy Zidane on their squad.;)

Let's be realisitic here

France 2-0

I reckon the French will be too strong, particularly with the great man Zinedine Zidane. Then again, the Portugese have 'Big Phil' on their side, so I guess anything could potentially happen.

I would like to see the Portugese get through, since they have never won the Cup before, but I don't think it will happen.

Irregardless of what happens, I hope the winner destroys the Italians in the final, or even better if the Italians choke on penalties once again. That would make it FIVE World Cup games lost on penalties for the Shitalians, and ZERO won! LMAO ;)

France 2 (Ribery '58, Zidane '70) Portugal 1 (Ronaldo '38)

Realistic? France may very well be the best team of the three left playing. Certainly I'd feel better against Italy today.

But it was Portugal, not Italy or France, in the Euro final just two years ago. It wasn't an out of nowhere performance by the Portuguese to date.

I see a 1-0 game, or something that comes down to penalty kicks. The defenses are both very good.

I do not care who wins the World Cup 2006 as long as it is not Italy after what they did to the Australians about a week ago.

Aussie hardly had a shot on goal the whole match. I think Buffon got to make 1 save in total in the second half and Italy had 10 men.

Be a bit more gracious! Aussie did themselves proud but were never a threat to the Italians.

I think the French are on a roll. I think they'll go to the final and lose to Italy. The Italians were a masterclass last night. Best game I have watched in since Barcelona and Germany in the 1992 European Cup Final.

That's true. The Italian defence was very solid as always and we only really had a couple of real chances, especially one in the first half that should have gone in. But the Italians didn't really have any notable chances for the entire second half until their counter-attack in the dying minutes of extra time, where we were completely robbed by the ref paying a ridiculous penalty which was solely due to Grosso's blatant dive in the box.

with all the diving, corruption and match-fixing, I can never respect Italian football.

1 question.

Why hasn't anyone scored on Italy yet?

Corruption is EVERYWHERE, not just in Italy. And don't you dare say the only people who dive are on Italy's soccer team. You couldn't score any goals when it mattered. Regardless, Australia played well and had a great run. Give credit where credit's due.

damn france didn't deserve that penalty at all!! fucked up.. portugal was the better team!

That call was fucked.

And they were the better team today. But Deco especially disappointed me.

What? There was NOBODY between the striker and the goalkeeper when the foal was committed. It was a well deserved penalty kick considering the striker had the guy beat and had a clear shot 10 yards from the goal.

Based on play, there are no other deserving teams who should be in this final game. France knocked off Brazil, Italy the hosting Germans (without allowing 1 goal during the entire tournament). You can bitch all you want about penalties, last minute goals, etc. All that matters is that these teams got it done when it mattered.

i could be wrong... but it looked to me like they just tripped over eachother... not a good call in my book...

of cuz they did get thru.. and of cuz it matters.. just ranting away..

and for the record that foul wasn't on purpose or intentional.. france were lucky to get that penalty.. god knows what would happen if that goal didn't happen..

it might be portugal vs italy and portugal emerging as first time champions!! haha!! :P

good game but the better team won, Ronaldo was amzing he just didnt have any help

Zinadine is nasty, amazing control

Portugal still made a good showing, I am proud

Bullshit call

Does anyone really imagine it would have been called in front of the French goal?

The Portuguese dominated in every aspect of the game. Time of possession, shots on goal, corner kicks...

It was a shame it came down to such a piss ant call.

LOL

This from a guy supporting a country infamous for its ref fixing.

If we bought off the refs on the reg I might be saying the same as you.

yes.. in the end the result was kinda fucked up.. but i take my hat off to portugal! they have improved so much since euro 2004 which was ALSO fucked up that they lost to greece..

but something really confused me.. could someone explain why scolari used 4-5-1? with only pauleta up there alone there where SO many chances where they could've scored but no assistance was available.. it was just so fustrating knowing that there were plenty of chances to score but no help was available.. especially that one attempt were pauleta hit the ball back wards but miguel tripped on his own.. miss opportunities like that are fucked up man..

same goes to france.. that shot from henry was brilliant too... if ricardo's elbow didn't touch it, it would've been 2-0..

all in all i'm really proud of portugal! they will shine in time to come..

you can't call a penality in the box in the world cup unless the player had a high chance of scoring. these soccer players are a bunch of wankers for diving left and right with little contact and acting like they just got taken out by lawrence taylor in his prime. seriously, if they can't take it then play golf instead. it's a shame that france won because of that penality kick. i hope italy stomps them. besides the italian team actually consists of almost all real italians.

I agree with DJ BJ, the Italians had a good defence however if the Italians were so good they would have scored in those 90 mins of official football time. But the Aussies faught till the end and in the last minute the referee decided worngly on a penalty that was not even there. I lost respect for both the Italian team and all the stupid referees who made major mistakes in their decisions through the entire World Cup 2006!

There is too much theatrics in the sport today.

But you also have to consider the size difference between a lot of these guys. Some of these teams have players almost all over 6ft tall and carrying probaly 60lbs+ on their opponents. If some 220lb player shoves some 140lb skinny guy the fucker will go flying, even when it doesnt look like much of a shove.

Don't mind me, I'm just bitter towards Grosso for his dive and the ref who wrongly paid the penalty. :finger: Honestly, did you believe that was a penalty??

Good luck to the Italians, I think you will beat the French because I don't think the French will be able to score against your first class defence. Besides, Grosso proved he provides more value to the team than diving against Germany - great player! ;)

Support for soccer is very much like Harry Kewell's groin here in Australia. Sometimes it's weak, sometimes its strong (usually when the national team is doing well). There are four sports more popular than it here (Australian rules football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league), so hopefully our recent success in the World Cup will cause the game to catch on here and allow for more 'golden-boys' to come through the ranks.
