Hello everyone. This is my first post so please bear with me. First off I'd like to say I've been reading this forum for some time and it seems to be full of great people and good advice so I was hoping you all could help me. I'm 30 years old, 6'2, 270 lbs at 20% BF. I haven't worked out for years and just joined a gym last week. My goal is to be around 245-250 by mid summer. I will be working out 3 days a week and doing cardio 4-5 days a week. The questions I have are... Is this a realistic goal? Should I use a strict 2000 calorie diet with minimal carbs? Does the fat I'm burning get used to build muscle meaning take in less calories? And last... my diet plan is very boring and I need some new ideas for all 3meals, I hate cooking like you wouldn't believe so if you have any foods that are VERY simple to make... please let me know. Right now I'm limited to chicken, vegetables, salad, egg whites, cottage cheese, whole grain cereal and no fat milk. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!!!

5 months to lose 20-25lbs is a great start. IMO, you want to lose the weight slowly. I know of people who have lost 60 pounds in 6 months and it just isn't good for the body to lose that amount of weight in such a short period of time. Also, do not be afraid of a small amount of complex carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice and oatmeal. Also, drink alot of water...stay hydrated.

^^^^u should be eating 6 small meals, one every 2-3 hours, not 3.

Just make sure calories in calories out if you want to loose thats the only thing that will work. If you are in a deficite you will loose.

if you take in 2000 make sure you are expending 1500 a day and you have a 500 a day deficite.

3,500 kcals is 1lbs if you can get that 3,5000 deficite in a week or 2 thats a pound every other week.

watch your sat and tran fats. eat healthy fats natural.

get pelenty of fiber and change all your carbs pasta and bread to wheat.

Change all of them to 100% whole wheat, not just wheat. And will mainly true those recommendations are pretty general. Saturated fat is not harmful for you. And a 500cal per day deficit can be enlarged mainly in the beginning of the diet because you have more fat mass to support a larger calorie deficit.
