Please explain, what makes you middle class

seriously, lou dobbs says the middle class should be mad, but the media never defines what the middle class is

lou dobbs is a tool. HTH. ;) Just kidding.

I think that people don't really need a finite definition to categorize themselves as middle class. People are going to either be mad or not based upon their own criteria about what is or is not acceptable in politics, not because someone told them a finite income range for what is middle class.

According to my Compensation and Benefits text this is how it's defined:

Family of Four Annual Income

UPPER -

Ultrarich - Over $1,000,000
Wealthy - 250,00 to 1,000,000

MIDDLE -

Upper Middle - $100,000 - to $250,000
Middle Middle - $60,000 - $100,000
Lower Middle - $35,000 - to $60,000

LOWER

Working Poor - $19,000 to $35,000
Poverty - to $19,000

I would have considered 200k per year upper class, I think. Wouldn't you?

I have been living below poverty level since I kicked my ex out near 6 years ago.

And what is your point?

The middle class should be pissed. They bust their asses to get by and spend all of their money on frivolous bullshit trying to be people they are not, totally disastified with their lives, surrounding themselves with shit they dont need, ignoring their children all in an atempt to keep up with "the Joneses" <----- peeps that laugh at them as they chase their tails living paycheck to paycheck while their kids blow each other away at school.

huh? Not every middle class person is that way, BM.

I think that the middle class bears too much of the tax burden. I believe this is what Lou Dobbs may have meant, even though I didn't see the program.

damn, im middle middle.

but I am single, not supporting a family of 4.

Wouldn't a lot of it depend on where a person lives?

ugh, I hate agreeing with you....but I agree ;-)
It depends where you live.
I am in the 40% tax bracket and in some areas I would be considered a friggin trillionaire.

I dont get involved in politics much, ma'am. I am only stating facts about the majority of middleclass in NJ - where I live.

It is laughable how these MORONS yield their time with their most precious family so they can surround their kids with heaps of JUNK yet they throw those same kids into daycare cause hey, gotta work to buy MORE JUNK. Finally they all wring their hands when those same kids grow up angry out of control teens with no respect for anyone or sense of resposibility. And the country wonders why our children are blowing each other away in school.

And unless my kids find a way to get out of their current environment... they will be no different.

*steps off soapbox*

I am done ranting about the middleclass morons in my community.

Not true......I don't spend frivolously, I am satisfied with my life and never surround myself with shit I don't need. Ok, well maybe I have too many shoes, but hey even lower middle class women go shoe crazy..hehe!
I do however ignore my children. I would rather drive an expensive fast car than give to them ;p Kidding..I have no kids!
I'll tell ya, the lower middle class seem to fit this profile more. I do get your point though.

Darlin - it isn't just the lower middle class - but the middle class as a whole. The money just never seems enough when these people are so busy trying to keep up with the Joneses (who are actually laughing at them). There is NO END to how much these people will ignore their kids because of it.

It is sad, sad, sad.

Yeah, I see lots of that, too, BM.

I think lots of people from every tax bracket buy lots of stupid shit, sometimes even working crazy hours to get it at the expense of spending time with family.

Great points. I also think kids grow up angry b/c of video games and watching violence on tv.
I never see kids outside playing like when I was a child in the 70's. What is that about? They are all inside shooting cops with guns and gaining points for it.....!

It's amazing how much more important extra luxury items are than PRECIOUS TIME with one's family.

I have friends that are well in the 6 fig range that live paycheck to paycheck. $200K doesn't go as far as a lot of people think anymore.

You must be joking!

That is classic example of what I am talking about...

200K?!!!!

Before I kicked my ex out we had four children in five years, two homes (one was his condo that we kept as rental until it was trashed twice), a business that we started at the height of the recession and I stayed home with our kids until I returned VERY parttime to modeling (I didnt begin to generate an income doing that till just about the time I kicke him out so it actually COST us) when my baby was about 4 or so.

NEVER did we make that kind of money and we lived in NJ - a VERY VERY VERY expensive place to live.

My sister and BIL also did the same.

They have three small children that she stayed home with and they also run their business from their home. They vacation often, have lent me 75K for legal bullshit. She homeschools the kids with the exception of her 9 yr old that she is about to send abroad to boarding school.

Their income is nowhere near 100K and they also live in NJ.

HOW DID THE TWO OF US MANAGE THAT?

No doubt. I doubt that anyone on their deathbeds says "Gee, I wish I would have bought more stuff." I sure do bet that lots wish they had a few more minutes with their family, though.

People are just dumb with their money in a lot of cases. Take $4,300 for a mortgage payment, $250 for insurance, $700 for taxes, $900 for an Escalade, $1,400 for the M5, $1,350 for the boat, and another $1,800 per month in minimum credit card payments. That's $10,700 per month without food and utilities. $200K after commission taxes (which I think is how most people would get that high, I rarely see people salaried at that) which are 41% leaves you with $118K per year. They're $10K over what they're bringing in. So, they pull money out of their house, pay their shit, get more cards to pay cards...

No worries though. A lot of them have up to $10K in a 401K!!

Nope, they will sit there cursing their "ungratefull brat kids" for letting them die alone spitting in that parent's face.... especially in light of all that parent sacrificed and gave up just so that their kids could have "everything".

As Mr Jnevin pointed out - those dumb mother fuckers dont have a clue.

lol

don't we see this crap day in and day out? I am working on a loan right now where the borrowers make about $250k a year, are paying out about $17K a month and want to refinance to lower their monthly installment debt cause they can't control their spending habits. The problem is that in a year from now, they will have a $250k mortgage balance and once again have $80-$100k in credit card and automobile debt. WTF?

Put them on an option ARM if they have assets. They're slumming it in a $250K house with that income.

ahh hell...I am doing them an 80/10 so they have no MI...and cutting their term from 30 years down to 15. I think I am actually helping them out a lot but they have to cut up the damn cards. This is ridiculous. Yet they still have 780 credit scores. :whatever:

An option to 90% with TAMI through Countrywide will pay you 3.5 on the back with no MI and a minimum payment rate of 3.625%.

they insisted on a fixed rate. I am doing the loan through Countrywide. 80/10 15 yr. at par rate only because I am making the points on the front.
