interesting why ?

I had to carry constantly when I lived in the mountains. I found a 38 hammerless stainless snubbie to be the most reliable thing I could drop in the mud.

It would have been a great luxury to have the added capacity of an auto loader magazine... but "concealed" carry was critical to survival... I would term it "surprise" carry.

All of the girls that lived in our area... three miles into the mountains from the nearest road... were having sodas on my front porch with my wife on day. It was a total hoot because one showed another her gun... and they found out they ALL were carrying the same 38 hammerless alloy (feather weight) snubbies. It was the gun of choice for women in the mountains.

may I suggest for women a baby-glock ?

I can shoot with either, but my favorite gun is a good ol' S&W .357 with fat grips, extended barrel and target sights. The heft and feel is what I appreciate -- as well as the simplicity. I don't mind a Sig 9mm, but most pistols feel like toys -- granted, I haven't shot any larger caliber pistols.

I don't say revolvers for women because of size... but rather because of safetys.

A glock is fine for women because it is generally the same as a revolver... no safety to remember to throw.

It will sound sexest to say... but if you have ever seen a woman using a handgun when her life depended on it... there is a tremendous chemical response to beta stress that women experience. It is not the same response men have.

Some truly kick ass competent women can describe for you the experience of having their eyes block with tears so badly they can't focus and can barely aim... even though intellectually they know what they have to do to survive. The body is a powerful thing. It can override the mind.

I'm trying to convince my GF to get a S&W .357 magnum but she has doubts. She thinks its harder to load than an auto pistol.

I just buy the bullets and throw them at people. I might not hurt them, but they get scared and run because they think you're nuts. :insane: :D

Go with a glock .40 if you want a good pistol.

Can't go wrong with a browing 9mm

I prefer automatics, mainly becuase of aesthetics and I just think they're cooler. :fro:

Revolvers do have their advantages, though. Reliability and simplicity of function are the ones everyone always talks about. Plus, if you have a bad round with a revolver, you can press the trigger and cycle a fresh round. If this happens with a pistol, you've got problems.

I still prefer a sig or an old 1911 to any six shooter. :)

Revolvers are pretty much like 'idiot cameras'. All you need to do is point and shoot. Which of course, is why I carry a SW snubbie.

??Does she think she's going to have to stop and reload??

dunno women's affair... lol Sounds like it looks easier for her (and others I know) to just insert a mag inside.....

You've pointed out to her that she has to load the mags, right? lol...

No one likes the all American gun, the 1911? Anything else is a pea shooter, and glocks are ugly overpriced overhyped styrdy but innacurate pieces of plastic IMHO!

if I could afford it I would gladly buy a desert Eagle .44 magnum so for the moment I'm ok with a Glock 32 .357.......

I personally have several guns. Carry a .45 S & W, with a 4" barrell, or if I am carrying an ankle bun, I have a S & W .22 ultalite

For women a S&W airlite revolver. Can't really fuck anthing up
I collect old colt army's. I have a 2nd gen and 3 3rd's. I'm saving for a 1st, but they are high doller.

My preference is the pistol, 1911. But I also have an N frame smith .357 that I wouldn't trade for anything. It's just too big to carry around much (6 incher). Same with the Desert Eagle .44... I've shot one quite a bit. Can't even release the slide with 1 hand. No kidding. But they shoot great! You would need a wheeled case to haul it around.
I know lots of guys who've carried glocks for years, & wouldn't trade them for anything. I've never shot one.
Sigs are top of the line IMOH, just pretty pricey. the 220 .45 is probably my 2nd fav auto.
I'm carrying a Beretta 92 right now. pretty big gun for a 9mm. pretty big gun for a .40. it's just pretty big.

Bottom line, every situation, every person has different wants & needs. I wouldn't mind a .44/.45 snubby wheelgun, either, just for kicks.

My baby is a stainless Colt Commander. I wish I could carry that here!
