i've decided its time i go take a class and get my permit... i dont understand how people can criticize owning a hand gun anymore... even thought i will likely never have to use it, what if???

so, what sort of gun will give me a good bang for my buck? i would not be willing to shell out a lot of cash for the simple fact that i'm on a budget.

My father-in-law runs a course in Arizona.
Arizona concealed carry licenses are valid in nearly every state that allows concealed carry permits.

I can send you info if you'd like.

It runs this summer.

It doesn't apply in California.

There two ways to get a license valid in CA:

As a law enforcement officer
or
Because you work with classified information. (Even this is hard to get)

michigan is now extremely easy to get your ccw. take a class and apply... and the class is a one day, 8 hour thingy.

Michigan gave a concealed weapon permit to Eminem. fun shit.

As far as money, the cheapest semi-auto i've seen in indiana is the 'high point' model 9mm or .380. Don't know if they exist in michigan.

If you really want to, try www.auctionarms.com. It costs an extra $40 to transfer & ship a firearm, but the prices are lower & the selection is better.

You definately do not want to buy the cheapest gun you can find, you'll end up with some russian trash.

If you're going for concealability go with either the glock 26 (9mm) or glock 36 (.45). Both can be had for under 600.

If you get either of those, get the pinky extension for your magazines.

If you're going for an inexpensive/reliable gun. Taurus makes a nice gun.

Personal choice for handguns:

- Sig P-228 9 mm or Walther P-99QA 9 mm, cause of their handling (but I still dont like 9 mm caliber....).

- The one I wanna buy one day: Glock G32 .357 "magnum". Stopping power is amazing and can go easily through a level II body-armor (that's what most law enforcment agency carry).

Basically I would advice you to go with anything over 9 mm.

My father-in-law used to be a cop. Law Enforcement officers can wear any class body armor, it just becomes severly limiting going beyond II.

I bought my Glock 32 .357 sig about a year and half ago and It is a great gun. Definitely recommend for shooting--would be a bit hard to conceal though--for concealment try the compact Glock .357 sig.

despite manufacturer, I recommend both the .357 sig round and the .40 S&W.

exactly, the Glock 33 would be perfect for concealment. I htink it hold something like 9 or 10 shots.

therE's no big difference between Level IIA, II and IIIA in terms of weight. Only thing is the price, but I would definitely go for a IIIA. But sometimes Police Dep. act like cheap assholes.....

what about flexibility?

same thing. I've tried anything from a miserable IIA to III. Except for the level III I felt basically the same with the bullet proof on me. Now III and IV are a different story but unless you expect someone to stick an AK-47 on you then...... :)

I like the Taurus M450 UltraLight. Tis' only 5 rounds but it is a fine shooting weapon especially with CorBons. While the ported barrel is worrisome that it might produce temporary night blindness, I have experimented with it and found this to be of little consequence, especially since aiming a snubby is pretentious. Worse comes to worse, it can be adapted with a laser apparatus to remove any doubts.
