pintoca ... a question about high speed limits and auto durability

if you have to ask this i suggest staying away from cars altogether

Why do you have experience in driving >100 mph on a daily basis?

I think it depends on the car. A powerful V6 or V8 should have no issues, as long as you don't have to keep hitting your brakes to slow down at highway speeds. A less powerful inline 4 would see more wear and tear because the motor would run at a higher RPM than the V6 or V8.

That makes sense. I don't know what "the average car" is in Germany. Everyone must not drive V8 MB's. I think Pintoca has a Mini Cooper.

I don't think that is the case.

Most of the cars you see on the road here are 4 cyl cars.... Lots of them are driven over 100mph on a daily basis. I think it comes down to the way the car is designed/built.

NO manufacturer would be able to make any money around here if their cars break apart after 1 year of "normal" driving.

I drove 100.000 miles in 3 years with a 4cyl... only had to change brake pads once and the rest was regular oil changes... that was all.

I believe however, cars are "tuned" for their end-markers. I had a civic in venezuela... and that piece of shit car, despite being direct injection blah blah blah, could barely make it to 100mph. I have seen civics here (not that many around, but still) pulling 120mph.

nowadays, all cars with 4cyls are able to make 100mph (I see corsas doing it all the time).

so in short, NO, if the car is designed for this type of driving it will not make any difference.

average car here would be:

mid-class: BMW 320i or d (those are 4cyls)
Jettas (mostly diesel)
C class
E class (lots and lots)
5 series (the 520i and 525 are mad popular)
LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of VW Golfs (mostly 4 cyls as well).

All in all, 6 cyls are BY FAR no the norm... the reason being that moden 4cyls deliver all the power you need and they don't need as much gas... remember: 7+ US$/Gallon

nowadays, diesels account for more than 50% of all new cars.

My current car is a diesel: 4 cyl, 180bhp (stock) and 300LbFt. I will tune it to 220bhp and 360LbFt, but only because I can and it's very cheap to do so, not because I need it AND because the increase torque will help me save diesel... the less RPM you need the less you consume

It's not really the speed but more the RPMs. Driving your car at 100mph but revving the engine at barely 3000rpm is nothing. Now pushing your Civic Si at 100mph at 6500rpm because you wanna feel so "Vtec-y0" maye be a problem.

Thanks for the info ... I feel enlightened. :)

this is correct......keeping your oil looking like honey, helps alot. i use MOBIL1, and i keep it clear, changing at 3K...with a Synth. you can change at 7K with no problem, but i dont, cause i drive at 100mph all the time. :p

Have you heard M1 downgraded to a GrpIII base stock?

That's a lot of torque.

at 400Nm (stock) pulls like a horse bro, the most fun I have ever had with a car. It shows that HP is meaningless, torque is what makes a car fun!

and I change my oil every 30.000 kms... (that is a lot of miles, that is what the car says)

thats not necessarily true.

Everyone would have diesel engines if it were the case.
