It is a picture of opening or mouth of the Amazon with French Guiana the mix.

On another note, the ESA launched a series of satellites, one of which was launched in 2002, which I believe took this picture.

If you like stuff like that also check out the NASA site. They have some kicking pictures (like 100MB+) of space from the Hubble telescope.

You can see in this picture (follow the link) the octopus-like extensions of land in the mid right hand side, which is very similar to the picture Spartacus showed.

the brown is the sediment rich fresh water depositing into the atlantic
