How long did it take to get good?
Any recommendations to an adult thinking of learning this instrument?

I played for 10 years...but quit. If you have a natural talent for it...it is a little bit easier to catch on to...

You will enjoy it...it will be frustrating...but very very very rewarding. I wish that I had not quit. I was very good...and had a natural talent for it...was even offered a music scholarship to the top music college in the state when I was in 5th grade.

I shouldn't have quit.

I would recommend lessons...

Damn girl! How could you just stop? I've seen the musicians with the most talent just stop playing. The musicians that are out there selling hit records are mediocre at best. I always wanted to play but it never fit in. Did you get burnt out? It just bothers me when people with a natural ability for something let their talents fall by the way side. Could you still play? Have you played recently?

Well...at the time...I was a sophomore in high school. I was busy with track, cross country, AND basketball. So...everyday I had practice until 530 and then I would still have to come home and do homework...and then practice. PLUS...a few years before...I had switched piano teachers...and my current teacher was not good for me. I tried to stick with her...but we just didn't click. It literally was not 'challenging' enough for me.

My other teacher had me doing recitals and guild auditions when I was very very young. When I was in 5th grade...I had 10 songs memorized and played the original version on the Entertainer at a recital.

Yeah, I can definitely say that it was wasted talent. And I think about it every day.

I have played recently...and I can still remember a few songs, actually. I have been thinking of taking lessons again, and I think that once I graduate I will...I think I can pick right up on it...it will just take a little patience!!!
