It's been on the news here all weekend.... hundreds of people stranded in Philly due to flight attendants & baggage handlers calling out sick all weekend.....

Bags were piled up all over the airport, people spending nights there....

I cannot believe that airline employees would do a sick-out over the Christmas holiday... US Airways should be allowed to fold & go out of business so these A-holes can be "out sick" all they want.... What a way to purposefully F up people's Christmas holiday.....

Yah.. they should go on strike tuesday through thursday sometime in march. That would show management who's-who!

The ironic thing is, is that "management" wasn't "shown" anything......it's the customers/passengers who got F'd as usual.....

Again, in March when the airline is out of business, as it should be, they'll have plenty of time off....

While it IS unfortunate that your holiday was messed up, I'm sure they didn't do it for shits and giggles.

There are obviously HUGE morale issues. And, again, I'm sorry to hear that your weekend got messed up, but the sanity of most of those people is prolly being chipped away everyday. Large corporations tend to forget that the hourly employess are what keeps a company going.

I for one applaud them for showing some unity and trying to take a stand.

Dude, I'm not talking about me..... I wasn't in any way involved in that mess....just saw it on the news.....

While I agree with you about how much it sucks to be them as employees of US Scare-ways, they could've done the same thing at another time. They did a sick-out on a holiday, stranding thousands of holiday travelers -- purposeful IMO....

BTW, if they do find out that it was a true sick-out, what they did is illegal...

does that mean that on Senior Bag Day when only 90 seniors out of 870-something showed up for school, it was illegial?

yes, my graduating class was that big, and yes, that few of people showed up. teachers were re-scheduling tests while at the same time saying, "but i know you'll ALL be here that day for a review, right?"

If you woke up -- and found out your stupid airline cancelled 50% of the flights, and you were now facing 10 hours of screaming, pissed off passengers -- would YOU go to work if you possibly didn't have to???

Fuck that. If my contract allows me 1 mroe sick day for the day -- hell yeah i'm using it.

That's just life and lookin' out for #1. I doubt airline personnel have much sympathy for people who are just gonna yell and swear at them all day long.

I got smart (yeah!). I know the hectic possibilites for xmas travel and left early on tuesday night. When i landed -- snowstorm was just about to start. Score 1 for me! :)

Actually there were no more sick calls than they had in X-mas 2003, its just the excuse de jour for useless air. They are severly understaffed and under equipped in PHL and CLT so this is a frequent problem (particularly in PHL which is their main hub). It was just exacerbated becuase of the high volume of traffic occuring on X-mas holidays. I would not have expected the management to come out and say we f'd up by not having enough employees working and cutting back our workforce to skeleton crews in order to save a buck - but that would be the honest answer rather than blaming a few flight attendents and bag handlers that called in sick at a few airports.

I wouldn't worry about the 'illegal' part. It's pretty damn easy to get your family doctor to cut you a sick note with the necessary date on it whether you were sick or not.
