Do you think that getting your masters gave you more opportunities? I already have a Bachelors, but given an opportunity to get my masters while doing research. But im a bit hesitant, but majority of people ive talked to said that a masters degree is a good idea. what do you guys think?

true dat. i have one, and although i am not using it yet, if you have 2 people in for a job - with equal employment history, it will give you the edge.

of course the bors on here without a bachelor or similiar will disagree, but education is never a waste of time.

I could have skipped mine and still scored the position I am in now.

I am eyeing a new position in a new company and I would say my experience here gives me 100x more percent chance of nabbing it than my Masters does.

Overall, I would say no. Unless you are trying to really bust in high in the field in Corporate America. One thing about Corporate America... you never really advance far beyond where you enter the company.

I thought about getting mine but realized getting it at this time meant
taking time off from my family. I choose to hold off and maybe get it
later as it would mean little to my career at this time..

You can do it online.

that tells you how important it has gotten to be.

It is important, just not to my current position/career even if I was to
change companies.. In I.T non upper mgmt, it's pretty much optional..

I'm getting mine as we speak, and just from the little looking around i've done (to gauge my spot in the work force,) i'd say it is definitely worth it.

What is your field?

And look into online classes. Most reputable colleges offer them now. Some have programs from 2 nights weekly and one weekend day to earn your masters in 6 months.

I would agree - it depends on your area of expertise and career goals tho....

You mentioned research - science related?

I.T. Support Development
Specifically Program / Project Mgmt..

I know there are many online courses and have realized it would only mean
a few hours in the evening spent on it.. I will get it in a few years this way
when my Daughter gets a bit older and and wants nothing to do with Daddy.
She's 12 now.. That Shouldn't be too long now..

My saving grace is that I got an MIS degree, which is more on the Mgmt side than technical side as far as I.T. Degrees go..

It definitely opened more doors for me, however it was mainly because my Master's (Technical) went a different direction then my undergrad. (Social Sciences)

thanks guys!!!
my field is in engineering. i guess im just envious of the people that graduated with me, who actually have money now instead of being poor college students.

my masters research will be on computational fluid dynamics, its basically thermo-fluids stuff.

Depends on your field.....some require a Masters to work or make any decent money...some could care less....check out your field and what people have.
