For sending funds they are fine but I would never be on the recieving end of any significant amount of money. They have frozen the accounts (with the thousands of $$$ in them) on more than one person now. I highly recommend www.c2it.com as an alternative.
Paypal is xellent, Ive been with them for a good while now - and i have had no trouble - best thing is when u r paying a company u just log on and click pay! - no need to even enter your card details time and time again.
gettin it set up can be a pain though (you need to wait for a code on your next credit card statement before u can use your account)
but when thats done u will be glad of it!!

No it isn't because of illegal activity. I run a legal business where I and many others accept paypal. I know lots of people that have had thousands held for basically no reason other than error on paypals part. They are great, but don't trust them with large amounts of money.
Sometimes its paypal error, other times it can be something as simple as someone making a small complaint about the sellers service. They take it upon themselves to be the mediators in disputes etc and error on the side of the buyer in all cases which can leave the seller hanging. For most its fine, but if you are recieving large sums of money, I highly recommend you move the funds from your paypal account into a linked accound as soon as they are recieved to minimize losses should they freeze your account.
