Parcells still finding fault with Romo

He's a washed up coach that can't stand the fact that he was always overrated as a coach and he doesn't want to admit that he made a mistake in choosing Bledsoe over Romo. Parcells is a punk. Talent wins games more than coaching and the Cowboys are winning now because they have a better quarterback.

Parcells having hard time finding fault with Romo
Parcells having hard time finding fault with Romo

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Bill Parcells still isn't impressed with everything Tony Romo does.

Even after Romo threw for 306 yards and matched a team record with five touchdowns to lead the Dallas Cowboys to their third straight victory, Parcells talked first about the scoring pass the NFL's top-rated quarterback missed Thanksgiving Day.

"He drove that first pass to Terry (Glenn), the long one down the sideline. If he puts a little air under that, then we have a chance to score right there," Parcells said. "There are things that happen out there that people aren't cognitive of."

Maybe not, but what's easily noticed is that Romo hit Glenn for consecutive touchdowns after coming up empty the opening drive. He threw two more TDs to Marion Barber III and a record-tying fifth score to Terrell Owens in a 38-10 victory over Tampa Bay.

"Yeah, I know, but I could have thrown those first two," Parcells said.

"I wouldn't go that far," Romo said. "They were some easy ones, but it's not that easy to get down there sometimes."

Still, Romo's making it look easy after waiting nearly 3 1/2 seasons for his chance.

The Cowboys (7-4) have won four of five games since Romo, the undrafted Division I-AA standout from Eastern Illinois, replaced Drew Bledsoe as the starter.

Sparked by Romo, the Cowboys have surged to a half-game lead in the NFC East over the New York Giants, the team they play next on Dec. 3. Only Chicago (9-1) has more wins in the conference.

"He's a little fireplug. When he gets a chance to get out there and do something, you can see the energy in him," veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn said. "He just loves to play. When you have that type of energy, it trickles down to everybody."

Romo's three-game winning streak began when he was NFC offensive player of the week for his performance at Arizona. He then outplayed Peyton Manning when Dallas handed Indianapolis its first loss of the season, and there obviously wasn't a letdown four days later against the Buccaneers.

"This is the best we've played this year. Frankly, these back-to-back wins are the best we've looked in 10 years," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "We're a team that's got time to take advantage of getting a lot better. What we're doing, and the arrow we've got pointed up, can pay off over the next four or five weeks."

Dallas had the same record heading to New York after Thanksgiving last year, then lost to the Giants. That was part of a 2-5 finish that kept the Cowboys out of the playoffs.

This year, the Cowboys lost to New York 36-22 on Oct. 23, when Romo took over after halftime and got his first extended action. Romo has been the starter since.

Jones admittedly lowered his expectations for the season after that loss and the quarterback switch, no longer convinced this team could be "special." A month later, the owner is again excited about the possibilities for this season.

"We didn't design it this way, but I ought to know by now you can't design them any way," said Jones, whose team hasn't won a playoff game in 10 years. "I didn't know it was going to end up being this way, but we've got a chance to compete at a high level."

Romo has completed 69 percent of his passes (125 of 180) for 1,656 yards with 13 touchdowns and only five interceptions, and was 29-of-31 for 409 yards and three TDs after halftime the last three games. He had never thrown a pass in the NFL before this season.

"This what I always envisioned coming here, trying to be an explosive-type offense," Owens said. "This is not West Coast, but if you look at the way Romo is really racking up the yards, you would think we were a West Coast offense."

I hear ya... and I feel you on a lot of points. However I like a lot of the characteristics he demonstrates in a coach. I would love to play for a coach who didnt tolerate bullshit, and who was always looking for ways to improve the team.

The coach that is "satisfied" is the one that gets fired within 2-3 years. The coaching turn-over rate in the league these days is rediculas... and actually its becoming the same in all major sports. Just look at Larry Coker for Miami. A 59-15 record, a winning percentage of nearly 80 percent, a national championship in 01 and played for another title the following season... and gets shit-canned? Its all about winning, and if youre not actively looking for every little aspect you can improve on, then your life as the head coach of whatever organization you belong to is going to be short-lived. Thats the nature of the beat we have built in the world of professional sports.

So with that being said, I dont mind that Bill is being nit-picky over Romos performance. And at this juncture in Romo's career, he needs constructive criticism and direction, not just pats on the back.

I agree the change should have been made sooner. However when looking at the Dallas program as a whole, they have improved tremendously since the addition of Parcells, and to say hes "washed up" might be jumping the gun just a lil bit.

But thats just my opinion, and ive been told multiple times that it dont mean shit :qt: :jenscat

that romo dude likes jessica simpson

if you listen to the coach and Romo - there is a lot of kidding...etc

romo said he listend to "25% of what parcells tells him"

Parcells is doing whathe is doing to take the pressure OFF of Romo. Parcells Is right about a couple of things...had there not been a flag on the Pass Interference play int he COlts game - Boys would have lost, as the pass on that play was intercepted AWAY from the foul

What should he be doing - acting like Dallas fans and sucking Romo off cause of a few good games? No, he's a coach and a fucking PROVEN damn good one too. He's smart enough to NOT be short-sighted and realize that Romo is most likely not going to continue on this hot streak and will eventually look like a QB who has barely taken any snaps in a real NFL game...and that's why Parcells is looking thru the bullshit and working to correct the flaws he sees so that Romo will be able to get thru the tough patches.

God, sports fans are so idiotic it's amazing.

Biteme, like Shadow said if you see the interviews on TV and see their expressions, you can tell they respect each other very much and Parcells says he has known Romo would be a good quarterback for a long time. That being said, you know he is a perfectionist and doesn't want anyone resting on their laurels.

Those quotes look worse in print than they do on TV, Parcells was laughing when he said he could have made 2 of those touchdown throws (because a couple were only about 2 yards). When Romo heard Parcells said that, his response was, "well yeah, maybe he could have made the throws, but it would have been funny to watch him roll out of the pocket." hhahahaha

No, he isn't. The guy has started five games and people are talking about him in the same sentence as Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach. Parcells is just keeping things in perspective.

Over the last three games, Romo is 29-of-31 for 409 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the second half.

I love this. I'm so tired of the Cowboys playing well at the beginning of games and then choking.

We thought Tom Brady was a fluke when he took over for Peter Patriot too. Then he won the Super Bowl that year...and a few more times.
