Impressive. This is a great movie. If you are a fan of fantasy, it is a must see. It is a spanish film, and I am usually turned off by sub-titles, but the movie is so well made, you won't care about that. It is a beautiful, yet violent (not for kids) story... highly recommend !

Yes it was excellent; it took me about 10 minutes to adjust to the subtitles. I didn't think is was violent compared to todays norm of "hack and slash". I did wonder if the historical part was accurate..

Peace

Just got throgh watching this, i have been waiting for over 12 months for it to be released. Great film, man there is some graphics shit in there, the effects were great.

I would guess he's talking about the beatdown the general applied early in the movie & maybe some of the torture scenes.
The only scene I thought was mildly disturbing was when the generals maid slashed his mouth and watching him sew it up. That was icky enough for me to close my eyes.

The character that was Vidal was supposed to be a real person during that time. But I don't know how true the actual story was in relation to the house in the woods. But the "communists" were a problem for Franco Spain during and after the civil war.
I really liked the movie a lot and can't wait for it to come out on DVD to own it.
Guillermo del Torres is the one who wrote the script and directed this movie. He also did another one that had to do with Spain during or just after WW II. That one is called "The Devil's Backbone." It's not as good as Pan's Labyrinth but I still enjoyed it a lot. It has to do with children and there is a ghost and a bit of a mystery in it.
