I have an assignment regarding Paleolithic cave art. I have to form an opinion, but the problem is my mind is totally blank...
I will sum up what the article says...
Many of the cave paintings are in the darkest recesses of caves, which is why they have survived 15 millenia since their creation.
The caves were not used as permanant shelter...long-term dwellings were discovered in different caves than the paintings.
They were used over and over again, having paintings over paintings from previous periods. The caves were also very difficult to get to...to get to them, archeologists had to crawl hundreds of feet on their bellies thru dark tunnels. The pictures are almost always of animals, some following the contours of rocks. Many of the animals appear to be injured or dead and some of the paintings appear to have been attacked with rocks or spears.
Now, the question is why that? why then? why there?
