When I track my intl pack on www.usps.com it says "Your item is being processed by United States Customs. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. " This is normal, right? It just came into the country today.

Yeah...this is normal. You don't need to get worried until it has that same status for a week or so, but hopefully, it'll change in a day or two to reflect it's next destination, and then finally reflect the fact that it's been delivered.
btw: right before my int'l package was seized, the "Information, if available, is updated every evening" part disappeared from the message but the "Your item is being processed by United States Customs" remained.

I wouldn't even say a weel it takes custom a couple of weeks to clear packages sometimes.

Good, do they work on weekends? Hopefully they get some sloppy agents in there to sleep through their shifts Saturday and Sunday

Yes, this is normal. It often takes several days for even a rather large group of dedicated workers to process my package. However, I can, with considerable effort, manage to process my package myself in a matter of minutes.
