Our Great Leader!!!!

FreakMonster

New member
Last week Our Great Leader kept up his push to explain to America that everything is going just fine in Iraq, while U.S. soldiers continue to die on an almost daily basis. But Bush's optimistic proclamations of great success were given a healthy boost by Republican lawmakers who were recently taken on carefully-planned guided tours of Baghdad and returned from Iraq bearing - surprise - good news. Take Rep. George Nethercutt, for example, who said, "The story of what we've done in the postwar period is remarkable. It is a better and more important story than losing a couple of soldiers every day." Well I guess that depends on whether you're related to one of those soldiers or not. But if you think you might not be getting the whole picture here - you're right. Last week Senator Chris Dodd and other top Democrats were denied entry to Iraq by the Pentagon. Why? Because according to the Pentagon, "no planes were available to ferry the group from Jordan to Iraq." Yeah, right. So the next time you see George W. Bush complaining about how the news coming out of Iraq isn't fair and balanced you'll know that he's right - only Republicans are allowed to see what's going on over there.

Oh,it's just some lower class peons,so let's not be naysayers. It's a great cause! The Elite's pockets are getting so fat, they're going to explode!Oil Pipe Line syphoning,Haliburton monopoly, the list goes on on.And lets not forget all those dangerous, invisible weapons of mass destruction we have been saved from.

forget about Americans losing jobs every day while Halliburton makes BILLIONS!

While there are many things worth complaining about, this one is way of the mark.

American contractors are hiring Americans at a furious rate at great salaries. Some of the law-enforcement trainers, for example, are earning up to $150K per yr, tax free.

Americans are doing most of the rebuilding work, so a good deal of the $87B usde for reconstruction is being paid to Americans who will spend it here.

This is actually creating jobs. You probaby don't hear it spun that way because the idea of using invasions to create jobs is politically unhelpful.

Matt,
Have you checked your PM?

Its interesting to think of why the Americans didn`t fake finding WMD yet.

Either they like the image as it is for some reason, or theyre waiting for a more important time to do this (election campaign perhaps)

You seem to equate Halliburton's profits with success in the US.

The 87 BILLION in tax revenue far outshadows the piddly little jobs that are created for the reconstruction.

think outside of the box.

20 Billion to 'reconstruction" which pretty much like saying 20 Billion to halliburton (which is why Bush freaked out when the Senate wanted 1/2 to be a loan).

The other 60 Billion goes to feeding the watseful military machine. For example:

Halliburton is IMPORTING GAS TO IRAQ and charging 1.50$ to 1.62$ per gallon (TO ALL US PERSONAL) when people in Iraq pay $0.07-$0.14 per gallon for their own vehicles.

That is what I am talking about.

shit...im surprised its that cheap...

but there are potentially legitimate reasons for this
but i am not informed enough to validly argue them...

that doesnt adequately explain the loan hypo
you put forward here too?

Right - I have no idea about corporate governance, busienss strategy or any of that. YOU telling ME to think outside the box about these matters is like curling telling the Pope to get to church.

Notwithstanding that silliness....

The salaries of the jobs being created are actually pretty high. Most federal contractor jobs are. The reason the economic growth is less than it could be is that many of the jobs go to people already in the public sector - cops who become Iraqi police trainers, or ex-military that get invovled in security.

Corporate growth is good for the economy. The source of teh growth influences how good it is. Federal money limits the benefit because people pay extra taxes (or debt is incurred) to create the jobs. In a way, by hiring from the public sector, the government is paying itself.

Continue on down that thread and you'll come to the conclusion that people in power legislate themselves into more of it. It's not news, and it is not partisan. Everyone does it.

The near term benefit is indisputable. Who is Halliburton or Bechtel or DynaCorp hiring? Amercans.

There's a lot wrong with the Iraqi invasion and its handling. But you're up the wrong tree on this angle.

They were, but the plan was scrapped when the fake wmd evidence was wiped out by friendly fire during the war.

My opinion:

We're in Iraq now because Bush et al wanted to do this sooner rather than later, because they aren't assured a second term.

Afghanistan is a place that really is not recieving the attention, media nor funding it needs.

I honestly think Afghanistan is at LEAST as important as Iraq in terms of curbing terrorism, and its going to take a great deal of effort to unite this country...when no empire has been able to in the last 2000 years or more.

Ideally we should have focused all on Afghanistan and once sufficient progress had been made, handle Iraq.

Oh I thought you meant the part about ignoring Afghanistan

The more I hear about the middle east the more I think we would be much better off in the long run if we just made a huge neutron bomb…
