Our character is not defined by our circumstances...

you too eh!

Well here is hoping we both have happy endings!!

Happy endings sugar :rose:

Not happy endings....

But rather... happy BEGINNINGS. Remember guys, when one door closes another one will open. If you dont find an open door. Then jump through the window. If you cant find a window then knock the wall down, jump over it or keep following along the wall until there is a way to the other side.

Life is not about the end result... it is about the journey.

Be well.

Some reactions are instinctual.

We ALWAYS have a choice. Free will is what is supposed to separate us from the rest of the animal kingdom... C'est nes pas?

Hypothetically - I walk up to you and your kids on the street one day and I put a gun to your daughter's head...
do you have a choice?

Nah, I adore Werd. I'm just trying to make a point gently, by using a not so gentle example.
Sometimes, free will can go out the fucking window.
I wish I wasn't such a pessimist.

I agree, sometimes we create our own circumstances.

Our character is definitely not defined by our circumstances. I agree that it's in how we react to them. It's also in how you treat others (do you treat them as you would want to be treated?), whether you respect people around you, how you act, etc. Do you lie, cheat, steal, go after things that aren't yours? Or are you honest, trustworthy, fair, caring, considerate? These are things that define character.

No, I humbly disagree with intelligent non-ebonic lingo.

Someone holds a gun to my child's head. How I choose to react is totally on me. Do I get hysterical and scream and carry on? Do I try like a motherfucker to remain calm and THINK.... "How can I best get my child out of that situation?" Even though that situation was thrust upon the parent (meaning they did not ask for it) that parent still ultimately decides what they will do next.

It is not about making the right or wrong choice. Even Mr Division is an excellent Monday morning quaterback I'd imagine. It is about continuing to TRY to do the right thing.

Regardless of what one thinks, that child will ALWAYS forgive you when you screw up (in restrospect we all can say I shoulda, woulda, coulda). But the number of days when they make excuses for why mommy or daddy chose to stop trying will eventually end.

If you screw up it's ok. Mistakes are our greatest teachers. But it is NOT OK to just give up...

As I said before - it is not the circumstances that define our character.

And yes, many of our circumstances ARE by our own design. Still, isn't our character ultimately defined by what we choose to do next?

IE - someone develops a drug habit and loses their job and custody of their child. Do they just give up when it is suddenly all gone? Certainly no one held that person down and forced them to do drugs. One can only argue that THEIR parents or lack of opportunity or whatever screwed them up just so much. Ultimately they will be the ones to decide, "What next?" Do they suck it up, seek out the help they need and get clean and start over from scratch and claw to get their life and child back?.... or do they just give in after failing for the umpteenth time?

So, keep ya' head up, do what you gotta do......and then inside of you, I'll be reborn......

It's the niceties that make the difference fate gives us the hand, and we play the cards.
Do you play your cards right?

Fate leads the willing and drags along the unwilling.

Yes, but sadly, not everyone pays attention in class. OT, but worth saying.

"Take Responsibility for How you live your life"

This thread wasn't about me at all, but was meant for a dear friend who has found themselves in the midst of some harsh reality. Some of that reality I can relate to. Just wanted that person to be able to get some more support without that person having to ask for it. That individual has a great support system already, but one can never have too much... can they?

Pamela your words though have touched me personally.

THANK YOU

Though I dont have control over many of the forces that have impact on me I certainly need to learn how to better deal with MY frustration over these forces.

And SuperQT - I miss you guys too, but I have to be honest. My days and nights are full with the kids. We are getting on, just US. I am taking this small window of time now for us to figure OURSELVES out better.

Good luck is the product of careful planning.

This somewhat pertains to this thread.
