OTC BLood pressue meds

muscleup if someone has real high blood pressure then they need to see a doctor, get assessed, and put on the decent meds taht are script only, and most importantly, get followed up by the doc.

i mean whoever it is could try some mild diuretics, but if they were clueless and kept on drinking, all it would do is make them piss a lot. especially at night, and waking up every half hour is horrible

just go to the doc. ask for an ace inhibitor if you are active. beta blockers will affect performance in the gym

cheers

well when I do go to the doc they tell me it's sort of high but nothing to bad 130-140 /85-90

have you done all the lifestyle stuff like reducing sodium etc etc?

you could jsut get on some meds you know...its no drama
sodium really gets me...I can feel my blood pressure rising quickly on my junk days...I would like to stay off the blood pressure meds if possible...yeah, I was thinking of getting a mild OTC diuretic and watching my sodium a little better...

it would be in your interest to get a blood test and a few follow ups at your doctor

surely it isnt that expensive where you live...im used to it being free...

I will look into it...can you recommend a nation wide place ?

Im curious as to how they come up with these high BP standards, and how 120/80 is supposed to be the norm. Can somebody with some medical backround in this area please explain to me how a 300lb man can be expected to have the same BP level as a guy that weighs 150lbs??

nope, im in australia :D

outlaw: simple statistics mate. look at the BP of 10000 healthy people, and you have a normal range. then you do post data analysis that shows that as you BP gets higher, you see more cardiovascular incidents (heart attacks, strokes etc) therefore you identify high BP as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. a bit simple but thats how it goes

Yeah, but there's not even a difference in the standards between men and women. I find it hard to believe that out of 10,000 healthy women that weigh around 110lbs, that you'd get consistent BP readings that correlate with 10,000 men that all weigh 200+lbs.

just look up the reference ranges, you can see it all for yourself

men usually get high BP more than women though

As far as OTC blood pressure meds, I wouldn't bother - I tried a few and never found a huge difference in blood pressure. I started taking Diovan later which lowered by bp from > 140/90 to 120/70 in a month or so...funny thing is, I stopped taking it months ago and my BP is still low.

did it kill your erections ?

No. AFAIK, only beta blockers kill erection ability - but both diovan and losartan have no effect. In fact, I noticed increased sensation after taking diovan for a while, due to incresed blood flow.

I would expect so if the standard is based on a comparison of both men and women. If 200lbs was considered to be overweight for both men and women, there would be a lot more men crossing that barrier also.

no not really...walmart is junk....there machines are always high.

Not only that, but almost all of the machines in stores are for people who have 13" arms or less. I can't even get my arm in one of those cuffs.

Go out an buy a high quality cuff from your local drug store. Then have it tested against the one in your doctor's office for proximity of readings.

If you want to avoid any possibility of erectile disfunction, you need to get an ARB-II (losartan, valsartan). ED is listed as a possible side effect of both BB's and ACE inhibitors.

I actually take a script BB that's for hypertension (although I don't have high blood pressure, I take it for a different reason) and I've never had any issue with ED.. must be an individual thing.
