one of the worst things...

happened to me today... my mom called me at college and told me that my dad had run over our dog bandit... we had him since he was just a puppy( about 6 years).. i rushed home to help my dad bury him.... blood was everywhere... his body was caved in... every bone was broken.......... this was my best friend and now he is gone. I had to do what i had to do.. i had to help bury him... i had to be a man. But i couldnt help but cry when i had his blood all over my hands, shirt, and some on my face. his eyes were always so filled with warmth....... but when i looked at him.. they were stone cold.

has anyone ever had to bury and lay to rest "their best friend?"

I was 16 when I had to take my shepheard to the SPCA truck to be put to sleep. He couldn't even stand up any more. I only had my licence for a few weeks and I had to carry him into the back of my mom's Chevette hatchback all wrapped up in a blanket and then drive him to be put down with a friend of mine. I cried so much for him...I got him when I was 6. I still love that dog.

Good luck...it'll get easier as time passes, but you'll never forget.

Bad situation but you did the right thing by helping your dad.

It has to be tough to lose a pet that way.

Hope your pain and sadness passes quickly.

biglifts,

Just curious, what kind of dog was Bandit?

I have a Dachschund and it would kill me if something happened to that dog.
He has more sense than my kids at times.

Again, sorry to hear about your loss.

i am very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet bandit. i too loss one of my favorite family pets a few years ago. my daughter was in tears when we found our pet cat had been in some kind of accident and had a severe infection that eventually led to his death a few short days later at the vet. the hard part was telling my daughter that the cat was not coming back home.

Damn, Joe, that definitely sucks. I remember I had a lot of pets when I was young. I had 3 birds that fried up inside a cage because I left them out in the balkony(sp?) in the scorching sun. I had another bird that flew away somewhere. 2 dogs also died but from old age. Oh yeah, my hamster also died from heat stroke.

Smart dogs!

Watched a program last night on Animal Planet and there was a border collie on it.

They seemed to naturally have a lot of energy.

lol.. yah... they do have tons of energy... and are very smart. he won a few frisbee competitions..... but thats about it.... i took him hunting with me a few times once he got better trained. but they have a tendency to heard things, as that is what they are instinctivly born with.... so he would always heard our cars in and out of the driveway... it was like 6 pm at night, reallllllly dark out... and my dad ran over him... didnt have his glasses on.... he should have known better than to fly in the driveway at 40 mph..:(

i have a border collie as well. they are hands down the smartest dogs you will ever find.

my dog is a nut and LOVES to play. he will sit by the front door and cry and cry and cry until you bring him out to play. he does this non-stop, even if we already played frisbee several times that day. i love my dog.

too bad the thing goes through 3-4 frisbees a week. my dog has some strong ass jaws, and he will just bight clean through the frisbee. eventually all of the holes in the things mess up its ability to fly straight, so i have to buy a new one. i make weekly trips to pets-mart and buy the same thing there ever week. 4 frisbees and BBQ pig's ears. ;)

man that is good to hear... just treat that dog right and he will be your best friend...

i have known two dogs in my life.... bandit.. and lizzie.. both border collies.... my dad ran over bandit...and lizzie was brutally murdered by some teenage punks when i was 10 for doing nothing more than barking....... so when i turned 16 and got big enough( 245)... i met up with them, one at a time, and got pay back.
