Fantasy is a good distraction from the troubles of every day life, however, where does one draw the line between entertainment and BRAINDEADMENT...

You know, I've been watching REALLY old movies lately, we are talking Sidney Poittier, Hepburn and Tracy, Mickey Rooney, even watched most of Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvett, etc and one thing that JUMPED out at me is how WONDERFUL the screenplays were. No special effects, no blood and gore, no violence and barely even the hint of sex but my mind was just totally engulfed just following the dialogue. And it led me to wonder, was EVERYONE such a wonderful conversationalist back then? I should think so as movies were made for EVERYONE, especially *common folks* to have an affordable means of escape from how hard their daily lives were.

The average American's life is *hardly* a struggle by the standards of the most in the rest of the world. So why is it that most are so *dumbed down*?

Theories?

Supposedly Americans work the longest hours on avg per week. Something like 55 hrs as opposed to other countries who put in 36hrs. Maybe a reason we enjoy the release of celeb gossip the most? Just a thought.

I dunno.... ask the Japanese - those bastards work mad crazy. make Americans look like slackers (not that I am advocating working yourself into an early grave because I AM NOT). The men drop dead by 40 and there is ZERO POPULATION growth because the women have had it with busting their asses as wives/mothers AND career women. So they opt to just stay single and take care of number one.
