Okay...need some diet help, please! : )

Night Fly

New member
Well, my contest is this weekend (the strongwoman/man contest in St. Louis) and after the contest (on Monday) I am planning on dieting for about 8-12 weeks so that I can get my extra fat off before summer. I didn't start before now because there would be no point of me dieting for a strength contest.

I would like something that is not so strict like a bodybuilding diet, but something that I could see some good results in during the dieting time. I would really like to lose 20 lbs, and keep the muscle (of course). I know that I have 20 lbs to loose...but if I dont' loose exactly that much...I will be okay with that. I am not going to obsess over the scales...I am going to go by how I feel, look in the mirror, and how my clothes fit. 20 lbs is just an estimate.

I am not real good with carb/fat/protein ratios...so this is what I need help with. Plus...I will do better if I had a diet where I didn't have too much of a variety because it's the variety that does me no good. I am always like, "Well, maybe I can substitute this for that..." and it's never right! lol

I hope that you all can help me...I really want to do it this time. Thanks in advance!!

Yes...I have heard of that, thank you! :) I just feel that I might need some changes done to it. I don't feel that I need 300 gms of protein a day...but maybe I should just suck it up and do it because obviously everything else I've been doing hasn't been working. I wouldn't even be able to eat at those times, either....

How am I going to be able to get in the full amount of cardio and food when I work 12 hours a day? I'm not making an excuse...just need suggestions as to how to do it? I really want to give this a shot!

Could have swore that someone I know spent lots of time putting together tons of information for you about this very subject a few weeks ago....:(

My general rule of dieting...do NOT eat anything that Mother Nature did not put on this Earth herself. That is always a start.

Yes, I got all your help! Just need a bit more "eat this, eat that" type of thing. Nothing against you or your knowledge...and I know that you can help me too....just didn't want to ask you specifically on here! :p

Either dieting is simple or I am just simple minded...or both. Don't make it more complicated than it is. Don't go looking for the "miracle" diet either...

I've never gone looking for the miracle diet...and never will. I know that it's not possible. It does seem very complicated to me....maybe that could be because I have never succeeded at one.

heeheehee...don't take it personally B Fold...my husband told me for YEARS what I "discovered" here on Elite.........I just didn't listen to him for some reason  although he is a very gifted and intelligent person and obviously knows a lot about nutrition/excercise (check out his pic on the member forum :D )

I know for me I had to go on the journey myself.....go though the learning process rather than arrive at the end point without any effort (I don't like having things handed to me.....)

:)

Good luck this weekend Night Fly - take pics and let us know how it goes!!

NO offense to you, VDL...but it's not that I don't listen to him....I listen to him a lot because I KNOW his advice is good... There was no need for him to take it personally...because I didnt' mean it that way.

Thank you for the good luck! I am going to need every ounce of it I can get. :)

Kick butt & have FUN this weekend! :D

WOOOO HOOO! GREAT dieting philosophy! Personally I don't know my bodyfat % & don't WANT to know! I'd rather go by look & feel too.

I know what my sister (VDL) means that sometimes you just need to figure things out for yourself. It's not that you don't listen to what you are told - but, well, discovering it for yourself & making that journey to discovery makes you really COMPREHEND the info in a way that can't be replaced. If that makes any sense...

Night Fly, I'm the same way with variety! It was easier for me to have a 'spreadsheet' to stick to & just plan --- & stick to the plan! Here is my diet:
http://boards.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=122134&highlight=critique+my+diet

I had the 'alternates' in case I forgot to bring something to work or was out of something. That way that scenario was not an excuse to totally eat crap!

As for P/C/F ratios - I use fitday.com. It is wrong on some things - but I just double check it & then type in 'custom foods' for things it's wrong on.

Always remember young skywalker...when you share information with someone they are under no obligation to use it. You cant take it personally...even if it is someone you love. Do you remember how you resisted my ideas when I first tried to help you with your training...even told me I was crazy. But you talked to OTHER people....tried different things..and found what worked for you...it just happened to be what I had recommened.

If Flygirl is successful...it doesnt matter where her inspiration comes from. And if she doesnt heed your advice...it is no reflection on you....people have to find their own way. And if you care for them(which I know you do)....as long as they are successful and happy...it doesnt matter how they got there.

My yoda like advice....support her even if she follows someone elses "plan". In the course of trial and error she will find what works for her. REMEMBER...you didnt stick to my EXACT advice even when you decided that you agreed with me. If I would have gotten offened...I wouldnt have been able to further help you.

Flygirl.....your mind should NOT be on diet right now. Got the contest to Kick Ass at. After that then you can get the diet in order. Dont lose focus dear....
