OK, which one is better purely for liver protection? R-Ala or S-Ala?

I am sorry if this was answered in one of the hundreds of R-Ala posts, I may have missed it. So I want to use ALA purely for liver protection capabilities and nothing else...which will be the best choice, R or S version?

not entirely clear...

it would appear that r-ala is superior (well more accurately it is superior.. question is how superior in THIS ASPECT)

the liver studies have used R-ala..

the issue is whether s-ala which is reduced to DHLA in the cytosol is effective.. maybe.. maybe not..

though racemic is up to half r-ala (some brands seem to run "low")

r-ala is reduced to DHLA in the mitochondria.. this differential points to superiority.. as well as the fact that it is reduced to a greater extent..

the issue of racemic is whether s-ala intereferes with r-ala reduction (just dont know.. if so=bad.. ) and whether s-ala reduction in the cytosol is beneficial..???

Yes both r-ALA and s-ALA are good anti-oxidants/ liver protectors. The r-ALA is better...but only marginally...my guess is 30% at best. So I belive regular ALA is more cost effective and better as a liver protector.

Most of the studies I have seen say that racemic ALA is a very good anti-oxidant and liver protector, like Iceburg say r-ALA is a little better. Naturally I would not use either without Tyler Liver detox. If you have the racemic that iceburg and iceman1111 sell then you will be ok using that with Tyler.
I think maybe the reason it's hard to say one way or the other is that all the human studies are only done with r-ALA and no one has actually compared the two for liver protection clinically.

In the mitochondriaa R-ALA is reduced to DHLA much faster than S-ALA In the cytosol S-ALA is reduced to DHLA twice as fast as R-ALA. Humansupplement studies have used racemic ALA but R-ALA appears to be more bioavailable R-ALA is the form that has biological activity in the mitochondriaa know for the question of which form is better for the liver may be mootsince the commercially available supplements are a racemic mixture of about 50% R-ALA and 50% S-ALA.....

COW A BUNGA DUDE(iam bring this word back in)
