Supply the missing Value.

A A A A 28
A A B B 30
A C D A 20
D D C B 16
? 19 20 30

??

I think something might be off.

the second row adds to 30, and the last column has the same numbers, yet adds to 20

lol - okay, now even taking into account that the things don't line up - with the correct lining up - the second column and the 3rd row should have the same output, and they don't.

the missing number is less than 26, that is all I have so far

-9 assuming it is a simple matter of addition and subtraction. Given that

A = 7
B = 8
C = 4
D = 2

And the fact that their are only three numbers: ? + 19 + 20: Therefore the missing number must be -9 to add up to 30.

nah, it can't be that.

if you do a "quote" on Wodin's message, you see that it is not formatted on the screen the way he wanted.
the 30 is to be under the 4th col, and the ? is to be under the 1st col.

so while I agree with the A=7, and the B=8 - due to the whole thing being incorrect (either Wodin copied it wrong, or is just dicking with us), then look at the 3rd row.
according to that, 7 + 4 + 2 +7 = 20
which is right.
but then look at col 2 which is the same thing - that then shows it adding to 19, which isn't right.

it doesn't just add left to right - this is a GRE type problem where the grid works all ways - you add up and down to get the numbers for that col.

Yeah, I got to a=7, b=8, then noticed I had to apply some actual effort after that, then said f it. peace

It is a matter of simple algebra if you want to figure out what the other two letters equal. Other than that it is a trick question or one off of an SAT/GRE

The columns the numbers are under does not matter. It matters about the pattern from left to right not up and down.

lol - I hear ya, but pick one or the other.
it is either a series of things reading left to right, or it is up and down like a GRE thing - but it isn't both. :)

I will say that I'm a total dork and like taking the GRE and have taken them out of the books a shitload of times - yeah yeah - dork, I know.
and I've NEVER seen one that is setup like that and is only left to right.
they are grids that go up and down universally on those tests.

:)
