You need length to get deep into the muscle. Many recommend 1.5" for the main glute muscle and often for quads and 1" for other large muscles. You might get away with a smaller needle in the delts and a slin pin into minor muscles.
The gauge of the needle is it's thickness. The smaller the number, the thicker the needle. A slin pin is 29g or 30g. Most use a 23 or 25 to inject with and an 18g or 20g to draw with. If you have thin oil then you can inject through a high-gauge needle without difficulty. The problem with slin needles is the length, they're only 0.5". Medisave sells 27g at 0.75". The next step up there is 25g at 1" which is good for pretty much anywhere unless you have really thick oil.
What made you think that NPP made for a good first cycle?
I just realised that maybe you've been brought up with that crappy metric system and the " mark doesn't mean much to you. It's the symbol for inches. 2.54cm = 1"
