58-year-old Detroit man died after saving a young boy who was drowning Sunday afternoon.
The 7-year-old was playing near a construction site on the 38000 block of Miracle shortly before 5 p.m. when he fell into a large water-filled hole that had been dug out for a new home’s basement, Police Sgt. Eren Stephens Bell said Sunday.
The man managed to rescue the child, but wasn’t able to get himself out of the water. The Detroit Fire Department pulled him out and rushed him to a local hospital, where he died.
