I got Norton 2003 Professional through the university, so I've been using that. But when I subscribed to Comcast high speed net, I got McAfee Security Center and Personal Firewall for free. Through the security center, you can run a free McAfee virus scan through McAfee's site, but it doesn't repair, quarantine, ect.
Anyway, it recognized 5 viruses that Norton did not catch. I even checked each file individually and Norton says they are not infected. I ran Live Update twice and it says all updates are installed and my virus definitions are up to date.
Has anyone else had problems like this? I am considering buying McAfee Virus Scan because of this.
I know there are some viruses/spyware that can screw up Antivirus software, but I just reinstalled Norton today from scratch. I removed all of previous installation info according to the directions on Norton's website for reinstalling after a failed install.
My broke ass doesn't want to spend the $35 for McAfee, but if Norton can't catch all this shit I may have to.
I think the free scan at McAfee is free for anyone, so if any of you who use Norton run the scan and have the same problem I am let me know. That will help me figure if it's a universal problem with Norton or something isn't working correctly with my installation.
